We are looking to hire a Senior Mechanical Designer & Manager who shares our passion and is also:
· Knowledgeable – Expert in SolidWorks (primary), including large assemblies, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs). Comfortable with weldments and sheet metal tools; individual part design is limited but foundational skills are required. Experience with SolidWorks PDM and rendering tools is an asset. Working knowledge of AutoCAD is helpful but not required.
· Experienced – Five (5)+ years of professional SolidWorks experience, with a proven track record leading or managing a design team/department and keeping projects and tasks on track.
· Technical – An engineering background (mechanical/structural) is preferred; experience with steel structures and/or horticulture is an asset.
· Accurate – Able to deliver high‑quality, accurate, and timely work product.
· Organized – Strong attention to detail; able to prioritize, assign, and manage tasks for the design team across multiple concurrent projects.
· Energetic – Thrives in a busy, evolving, growing environment.
· A Quick‑learner – Adapts quickly to new technology, systems, and environments and shares knowledge with the team.
· Focused – Stays on task and keeps the team focused on deliverables and deadlines.
· Curious – Eager to learn, grow, and develop current and new skills; open to idea‑sharing and constructive discussions.
· Fluent – English with strong written and spoken skills; other languages are helpful.· A Team Player – Willing to roll up their sleeves to help others, even if it isn't part of their "job description."
· A Problem Solver – Able to identify the "what" and the "why," perform root‑cause analysis, and present solutions that balance performance, manufacturability, cost, schedule, codes/standards, and stakeholder needs.
Our Mechanical Designers create, manage, and develop detailed schematics and documents/designs/drawings, databases, and manuals for the design, manufacture and construction of our world-class greenhouses, steel structures and related products. These detailed technical documents incorporate the input of engineers, architects and surveyors and specify dimensions, codes, materials and production methods.
Job Duties include:
· Manage a growing design team by assigning and prioritizing tasks, setting clear timelines, tracking progress, and removing blockers to ensure on‑time, quality deliverables; provide timely technical guidance and solutions.
· Establish and maintain design standards, templates, and best practices in SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM; coordinate with Engineering, Projects, Procurement, and Production to align scope, schedule, and BOM accuracy.
· Lead peer reviews and quality checks of models and drawings as part of Quality Control, ensuring issues are captured, tracked, and resolved. Responsible for helping create, update and complete designs for new and existing structures and systems.
· Develop Top down 3d model structures in SolidWorks parametric system.
· Develop BW-CAD libraries (BW-components, commercial off the shelf items) in SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM.
· Create, update and complete models and drawings for parts, assemblies and structures in SolidWorks.
· Create and update template and project specific structure Assembly Manuals.
· Support sales by producing 2D and 3D drawings for proposed projects or marketing collateral.
· Develop and prepare engineering drawings, plans, diagrams or layouts from sketches.
· Manage the development process with BW Global external engineers as it relates to new and existing client work and internal projects.
· Support the transition of existing data from multiple decentralized locations into SolidWorks PDM.
· Ensure parts and building drawings and also Bills of Materials/Bills of Manufacturing are current and accurate in SolidWorks PDM and BW GLOBAL's ERP system and are well-organized for the CAD, project and production teams.
· Ensure the accuracy and completeness of PDM controlled Documents.
· Ensure designs and drawings are compliant with ASME Y14.1, CWB 47.1 and ISO 9001 certification requirements.
· Manage the design team members, including assigning tasks and tracking them, ensuring timely delivery of designs/drawings, providing timely technical assistance and solutions to the team.
· Peer-checking/reviewing each others' models and drawings as part of Quality control.
