Role Overview:
Scouts Canada's program is delivered by thousands of community-based volunteers across Canada. The Targeted Growth team exists to support and enable these volunteers to deliver high-quality programming through development opportunities, join-in events, third-party courses, and dedicated coaching.
The Targeted Growth Team is looking for a part-time Section Support Coordinators to join the team, working 10-20 hours weekly. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or someone looking to start a rewarding career in the non-profit sector. The successful candidate will play a vital role in starting new program Sections, allowing more young people to develop into well-rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and willing to undergo a Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Duties and Responsibilities:
In-Section Support
· Support new volunteers through the onboarding process.
· Provide essential Scouting materials and resources to new Sections and Section Scouters.
· Offer enhanced coaching to Section Scouters to improve the delivery of Scouts Canada's program and promote youth-led programming.
· Ensure Section Scouters have access to learning opportunities that enhance their ability to deliver Scouting programs by implementing experiential learning or "learn by doing" for youth.
· Help Section Scouters develop weekly, monthly and yearly goals and program plans in conjunction with the youth.
· Ensure the program meets Scouts Canada's goals of inclusivity and follows the youth-led initiative.
Drive Outdoor Adventure
· Share a passion for the outdoors and assist Sections in attaining new challenges.
· Support Sections and their Scouters with weekly outdoor activities that enhance outdoor skills and competencies in a mentorship role.
· Coordinate Outdoor Adventure Skills with local third-party partners and resources.
· Support Sections and their Scouters on weekend adventures to Scouts Canada Properties and other outdoor destinations in a mentorship role.
· Provide knowledge of essential camping equipment to Section Scouters.
Community Engagement & Awareness
· Assist in organizing and supporting community awareness initiatives, including open house events, to promote Scouting and attract new members and volunteers.
· Collaborate with local partners and volunteers to increase visibility of Scouts Canada within communities.
Other Duties
· As a non-profit organization with a small team, there may be occasions where other responsibilities or projects are assigned.
Qualifications and Job-Specific Competencies:
· High school diploma.
· Understanding of Scouts Canada's mission and principles, and commitment to its values and practices.
· Willingness to learn and adhere to Scouts Canada's policies, procedures, standards, and program.
· Proven experience planning engaging programming for youth (volunteer or work experience).
· Familiarity with Scouts Canada's Canadian Path program is an asset.
· Experience facilitating basic outdoor adventure skills training is an asset.
· Experience with one-on-one coaching is an asset.
· Capable of performing basic computer/web tasks and access to reliable technology (device, Wi-Fi).
· Willing to complete Scouts Canada's screening process, including a clear Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (condition of employment).
· Knowledge in one or more of the following: adult learning and development, outdoor recreation and education, or youth programming and development.
· Valid driver's license and independent means of transportation.
· Demonstrated leadership, management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
· Excellent communication skills: clear and professional, both verbally and in writing; willing to listen and engage.
· Ability to inspire confidence, teamwork, and leadership in others.
· Positive mindset, adaptable to change, open to new challenges, and eager to learn.
· Works well in a team setting and is open to constructive feedback.
· Models positive behaviours and Scouting values.
· Ensures content is clear, concise, and understandable for the target audience.
· Manages time effectively and independently while supporting team goals.
· Recognizes inclusivity needs and encourages growth within the volunteer team.
Working Conditions:
· Work hours of 10-20 hours per week with non-traditional and flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends.
· Meetings with Sections and their Scouters at their weekly meeting place or off-site, depending on program plans.
· Work in a home-office environment.
· Travel up to 10,000 kilometers per year.
· Up to 6 overnight trips per year.
· Travel conditions may vary from reasonable to occasionally difficult.
· Clear PRC (Police Record Check) and VSS (Vulnerable Sector Check) are required before the start date.
· Mandatory training requirement.
Physical Demands:
· Working outdoors for extended periods of time.
· Sitting at a computer for extended periods of time
