Job Description:
As Director, Operational Business Intelligence, you have a passion for partnership and using data to drive business outcomes. In this role you will lead a team focused on helping Canadian Operations make the most of its data. Working closely with operational business leaders, you will help turn data into insights, enable data-driven decision making, and help your business partners improve outcomes and achieve goals.

Your team provides several services to help uncover the stories hidden in our data. They help translate business questions into data questions and work closely with leaders to build and iteratively develop insights-focused products. The team uses advanced analytical methods to perform exploration and analysis, helping answer questions, provide recommendations, and proactively look for opportunities. Using techniques including wireframing, MVP products and prototypes, your team is focused on flexibility and delivering impactful analytics.

To be successful you will need to have strong consulting and relationship management skills, an ability to problem-solve, a strong background in analytics, and the natural curiosity to help find creative solutions to complex questions. Working with multiple unique business areas, you will need to manage several concurrent deliverables, many of which have interdependencies. As a seasoned people leader, you will manage and develop the talent of a team with a diverse set of skills to elevate and meet our changing business needs.

What will you do?

  • Building relationships and understanding the needs of key stakeholders
  • Facilitating regular touchpoints, prioritization discussions and portfolio health reviews with business partners
  • Advanced exploratory data analysis and statistical modelling
  • Coordinating the planning, resourcing, and execution of multiple concurrent projects and analyses
  • Coaching, mentoring, and development of a large team of analytics professionals
  • Interacting with stakeholders and partners to align priorities and negotiate timing
  • Presenting results and tailoring stories to different audiences
  • Proactively seeking out impactful data stories and generating recommendations

What will you need to succeed?

  • University Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Business Graduate degree preferred.
  • 7+ years experience leading large, multi-functional teams
  • Proven track record of growing and developing teams
  • Experience using data to drive business decisions and deriving insights from operational data
  • In depth understanding of Business Intelligence concepts and modern data modeling practices.
  • Strong understanding of best practices in data visualization and dashboard design.
  • Practical experience with modern Data Visualization tools such as Tableau, Qlik, PowerBI, QuickSight or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with querying and modeling data in relational database systems
  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
