Faculty, Forest and Natural Areas Management

BCIT's School of Construction and Environment is seeking an enthusiastic and team-oriented temporary, part-time (0.50 FTE) Instructor to teach in the Forest and Natural Areas Management (FNAM) Diploma program.
The FNAM program trains graduates for employment in a range of fields including industrial forestry, urban forestry, silviculture, arboriculture, GIS, digital field mapping, and natural resources management. Graduates are eligible for registration as Registered Forest Technologists (RFT) in British Columbia and have several available pathways to other levels of certification and education.
This temporary position will teach RENR 2310 GIS for Natural Resource Applications to first year FNAM students in the Winter 2026 Term.
Duties & Responsibilities
General responsibilities will include providing instruction for course- and program-level applied learning including training students in use of geographic information systems for natural resource applications (including logging into BCIT system, install of ArcGIS Pro, access to online resources and server/cloud storage, accessing online data sources, delivery of course material and assessment of submissions), Other responsibilities will be based on the strengths of the successful candidate and the needs of the program.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor in an environmental and/or natural resource management discipline or other areas relevant to RENR 2310.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of GIS applications, specifically ArcGIS Pro and the use and application of GIS in renewable resources and forestry industry and fields.
- Strong candidates with other relevant combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Recent field and/or operational experience in the subject matter (RENR 2310).
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively teach at the post-secondary level in classroom, field, and online settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a diverseteam, to be flexible and adaptive to meet the needs and challenges of a dynamic program.
- Able to weave multiple sources of knowledge in a teaching context, particularly with engaging relevant Indigenous knowledge-holders and land stewards.
- Familiar with the concepts of landform interpretation and earth sciences.
- Knowledge of regional hydrologic concepts for streams and watershed characteristics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum three years of recent field and/or operational experience in the subject matter.
- Additional Professional designation or eligibility to register as a professional is an asset (e.g., PAg, RPF, RFT, RPBio).
- Experience with new technologies used in natural resource management is an asset.

Salary Range
$65,045 - $113,545 per annum
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
