SENIOR DATA GOVERNANCE ANALYST - TORONTO
Position Overview:
As a Senior Data Governance Analyst on our Data & Analytics Team, you'll play a vital role in ensuring that data is accurate, consistent, and trusted across the business. This role goes beyond compliance, you will help shape how our data is governed, making it easier to share, analyze, and leverage across the organization. You'll collaborate with business and technical partners to design governance practices that directly impact decision-making, support advanced analytics, and prepare us for innovative uses of data in the insurance industry.
Working alongside skilled colleagues in engineering, finance, actuarial, and operations, you'll ensure that our data is high-quality and AI-ready, helping unlock new insights and improve business performance. What you will do :.
- Strategic Data Governance Leadership: Design and implement enterprise data governance policies, standards, and best practices that scale with our growth.
- Data Quality: Build and maintain SQL-driven validation checks and automated profiling processes to safeguard accuracy and reliability.
- Metadata & Lineage: Maintain the enterprise data dictionary, lineage documentation, and standardized definitions.
- AI & Analytics Support: Collaborate with Data Science teams to provide governed, high-quality, and unbiased data for AI and advanced analytics. Implement AI governance controls such as lineage tracking, versioning, and explainability.
- Collaboration: Partner with Finance, Operations, Actuarial, and IT teams to address governance challenges and standardize practices.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Act as a data governance expert with internal teams and external partners, including regulators, to promote secure, effective, and collaborative data sharing across the insurance ecosystem.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with evolving governance, data quality, and AI frameworks, bringing new ideas and practices to the organization.
- Data Remediation: Develop SQL queries to analyze datasets and correct data integration data failures.
- Adhoc SQL tasks: Execute SQL templated tasks to implement accounting functionalities (reversals, re-invoicing) whilst ensuring data consistency.
Core Skills:
- Strong SQL coding skills with the ability to write clear, efficient, and well-documented code.
- Proven experience in data governance and data quality management.
- Strong communication skills to bridge technical concepts with business needs.
- Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Curiosity, attention to detail, and passion for data-driven decision-making.
- Advanced T-SQL development (queries, stored procedures, optimization).
- Experience with enterprise metadata management platforms (Purview, Collibra, or similar).
- Azure MS Power Platform (Power BI, PowerApps, Power Automate) exposure.
- Experience with AI/ML workflows (data preparation, feature engineering, evaluation) is an asset.
- Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Science or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of overall professional experience, including at least 2 years in data governance, or data management role.
- Strong SQL development experience (T-SQL preferred).
- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
- Familiarity with AI governance principles and ethical AI practices an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Relevant certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) are considered assets.
- Prior work experience in insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries is an advantage.
