As a Director of Compliance and Product Safety you'll be responsible for ensuring that all Sephora products comply with applicable Canadian regulations and product safety standards. This role requires strong cross-functional partnership and effective communication with various departments including Legal, Brands, Merchandising, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain. As the Director, you will lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of compliance policies and procedures across our Canadian operations.
What You'll Do:
Leadership and Strategy:
- Lead and manage all aspects of chemical and product compliance, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Develop and implement comprehensive compliance strategies, policies, and procedures, including risk assessment and mitigation plans.
- Establish and maintain a product safety and compliance framework that aligns with industry best practices and evolving regulatory landscapes.
- Provide strategic guidance to senior management on product safety and compliance matters.
Compliance Management:
- Conduct regular audits and assessments of products, manufacturing processes, and supply chain operations to ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations
- Oversee compliance with labeling requirements, product documentation, and trademark usage to ensure accuracy, consistency, and vigilance across all products and markets.
- Manage the creation, maintenance, and accuracy of product safety data sheets and other required compliance documentation.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with Legal, Product Development, Sourcing, Quality Assurance, and other relevant teams to address compliance-related issues, support product innovation, and ensure seamless integration of compliance requirements into product development processes. yes
- Work directly with brands, vendors, and suppliers to conduct thorough reviews of trademarks on products, compliance standards, and overall expectations. Ensuring adherence to company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders on product safety and compliance matters, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
Regulatory Affairs and Risk Management:
- Manage and respond to regulatory inquiries, compliance-related litigation, and product safety incidents.
- Oversee the development and delivery of comprehensive compliance training programs for employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of regulatory changes, industry trends, and emerging risks to proactively address potential compliance issues and minimize liabilities.
- Lead large-scale compliance initiatives, including annual product safety reviews, chemical compliance audits, and supply chain risk assessments.
Team Management and Development:
- Lead, manage, and develop the performance of the Compliance team, providing coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
- Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance evaluations, and foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Culture of Compliance:
- Foster a culture of product safety, compliance, and ethical behavior throughout the organization, promoting awareness and accountability at all levels.
- Develop and implement programs to encourage reporting of potential compliance violations and ensure prompt investigation and resolution of any issues
What You'll Bring:
- You have 10+ years of experience in regulatory/product compliance, preferably within the beauty or retail industry.
- You have worked with local and international brands
- You have extensive knowledge of chemical regulations and product safety standards.
- You have a proven track record of developing and implementing compliance strategies and policies.
- You possess strong analytical skills and experience with compliance audits and reporting.
- You bring exceptional leadership and team management abilities.
- You have excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- You can navigate complex regulatory environments and make informed decisions.
- You possess high level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
