Fraud Risk Analyst

About the Role

We are looking for a detail-oriented and data-driven Fraud Risk Analyst to join our team and help protect our digital gift card platform from fraudulent activity. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring transactions, analyzing fraud signals, and maintaining the effectiveness of our existing rule-based risk engine. You'll work closely with product and engineering teams to continuously improve our fraud detection capabilities, propose system enhancements, and, ideally, help design lightweight models to support decision-making. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, have a strong sense for risk, and want to help shape the future of fraud prevention at a growing fintech company, we'd love to hear from you.

You Will:

  • Champion a customer- and risk-focused culture to protect our platform while maintaining user trust and experience.
  • Use and continuously optimize our existing rule-based risk engine to detect and prevent fraudulent activities related to gift card purchases.
  • Monitor high-risk transaction patterns (e.g. stolen cards, scalping, account takeovers) and recommend new rules or thresholds to reduce false negatives and false positives.
  • Conduct regular deep dives into suspicious activity and fraud incidents, and extract actionable insights to improve detection logic.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Compliance teams to refine workflows and ensure fraud prevention aligns with business goals and regulatory expectations.
  • Proactively propose upgrades or enhancements to our rule engine and risk platform to improve performance, flexibility, and scalability.
  • Build lightweight, data-driven fraud models to support early detection of emerging fraud vectors (bonus if you can prototype directly).
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation on rule logic, change history, and fraud pattern taxonomies.
  • Stay informed on the latest fraud techniques and fintech risk trends, particularly in digital goods and card-not-present payments.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in fraud risk management, ideally in payments, e-commerce, or digital gift card environments.
  • Hands-on experience working with rule engines, risk platforms, or custom fraud detection systems.
  • Analytical mindset with strong intuition for fraud patterns and user behavior anomalies.
  • Comfortable with querying tools (e.g., SQL and NoSQL), and able to interpret large datasets to support rule creation and optimization.
  • Experience working with fraud data signals such as device, IP, BIN, velocity, user history, and behavioral indicators.
  • Familiarity with simple risk models (e.g., logistic regression, decision trees) and ability to prototype or interpret them is a strong plus.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment.
  • Bilingualism (English and Chinese) is a plus but not required.
