ABOUT THE ROLE
Sister Margaret Smith Centre is seeking a full time Addiction & Mental Health Counsellor to work within the Adult Services team. This position is primarily responsible for providing Addiction Services for those experiencing substance abuse problems often with co-occurring disorders ie. addictions and mental health. This position would function as a member of the Adult Treatment team which is multidisciplinary and integrated across agencies within the Addiction and Mental Health system in Thunder Bay. This position would be primarily responsible for providing assessment, case management, counselling services and group therapy. This individual will be connected within the Addiction and Mental Health system and work closely with community partners to meet the needs of our vulnerable population who require addiction services. The candidate may work within both the out-patient and/or live in programs within Sister Margaret Smith Centre.

WHAT YOU BRING
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor level University degree in Social Work or related discipline
- Registration with the College of Registered Social Workers (RSW) or equivalent
- Clinical experience working with adults experiencing substance use issues
- Direct experience in crisis intervention, group work, and case management
Skills/Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of substance abuse and/or problem gambling.
- Working knowledge of substance abuse theory, mental health issues, and family systems
- Working knowledge of the Thunder Bay Addiction system and integrated partnerships
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
- Demonstrated regular attendance at work
Conditions of Employment:
- This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
- Offers of employment made to external candidates are conditional upon providing proof of a complete primary series of Health Canada approved mRNA COVID-19 vaccine or proof of valid medical exemption, prior to the offered effective date.
