This is a contract position with potential to extend or even convert to a permanent position for the right candidate. A fast-growing payments company in Toronto is seeking a Financial Controller to lead all financial operations, reporting, and controls. This role supports a high-volume transaction environment and works closely with senior leadership to drive financial performance and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting operations: month/year-end close, AP/AR, payroll, and financial statements (IFRS).
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and deliver financial insights to executives.
  • Manage cash flow, settlement account reconciliations, and banking/processor relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with payments regulations (FINTRAC, PCI) and support internal/external audits.
  • Strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial processes.
  • Lead and mentor the finance team.

Qualifications

  • CPA required; 7–10 years of progressive finance/accounting experience.
  • Hands on experience in a prior controllership role
  • Payments, FinTech, or financial services experience preferred.
  • Strong IFRS knowledge, analytical skills, and experience managing high-volume financial environments.
  • Proficiency in Excel and financial systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct).
