Job Summary
The Senior Process Engineer will be a key player in delivering engineering projects internally. The duties will focus on improvement of introduction of new processes at scale and optimizing existing processes. The role will involve coordination with production stakeholders to implement design improvements, as well as extensive collaboration with external vendors and contractors, and mentoring junior staff. Additionally, you will play a key role in process safety, optimizing equipment performance, developing feasibility studies, and process design from conceptual through basic to detail design, and providing operational support.
What You'll Do
Technical Leadership, Mentorship, and Communication
- Monitor and control process engineering deliverables to stay on schedule and budget.
- Guide and act as a mentor to junior engineers and operating staff.
- Lead the process design activities.
- Act as a point of contact for the external vendors and contractors.
- Interface with R&D department and external consultants to scale up processes.
- Promote a culture of innovation and collaboration.
- Champion process safety in the design, commissioning and operation of chemical processing plants.
Technical Expertise
- Develop and deliver process design in accordance with technically sound design principles, including process design criteria, mass and energy balances, other process engineering calculations, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment sizing and specifications, etc.
- Lead design reviews, and act as a technical resource for plant operators.
- Serve as a subject matter expert during process risk assessments such as HAZOPs.
- Own and manage the Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure process modifications are safely implemented.
- Other engineering support as necessary.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Master's degree in Chemical Engineering is an asset.
- Registered or eligible for registration as a P.Eng with EGBC.
- A minimum of 10 years of work experience in hydrometallurgy, spanning two or more of: commercial plant operation, plant commissioning, pilot plants, research and development, and plant design.
- Strong technical aptitude, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Experience with process control and instrumentation design.
- Experience with process safety management including risk assessment tools.
- Proven ability to deliver results with cross-functional teams.
- Adaptability to fast paced environment with complex and changing priorities, and ability to manage priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
Working Hours & Environment
This is a full-time, on-site position with pH7 Technologies, based at our Demonstration Plant in South Burnaby. Regular on-site presence is required. Occasional travel between pH7 locations within the Lower Mainland may be required to support project and operational needs.
