About the Role

Applied Compression Systems is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Drafter to join our design team. As a custom compressor packager, we design unique solutions for complex applications. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between engineering concepts and the shop floor, creating precise technical drawings for the fabrication of compressor skids, pressure vessels, and process piping.

This role offers an opportunity to work on diverse, innovative projects ranging from instrument air packages to complex fuel gas boosters. You will collaborate closely with Project Managers and Engineers to ensure every pipe spool, structural base, and mounting detail is accurate and ready for fabrication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Detailed Package Design: Develop detailed 2D and 3D layouts of compressor packages using CAD software (AutoCAD), ensuring optimal equipment arrangement for operability and maintainability.
  • Technical Documentation: Create and maintain the core drawing set for custom packages, including:
  • P&IDs: Accurate representation of process flow, instrumentation, and valving.
  • General Arrangements (GA): Dimensioned layouts of the skid, piping, and major equipment.
  • Pipe Spools: Detailed isometric fabrication drawings for process piping (suction, discharge, bypass, and utility lines).
  • Structural Drawings: Detailed fabrication drawings for skid bases and support steel.
  • BOM Creation: Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for procurement and fabrication.
  • Code Compliance: Ensure designs adhere to industry standards (e.g., ASME B31.3) and customer specifications.
  • Collaboration: Work with the shop floor team during the assembly phase to resolve fabrication queries and update "As-Built" drawings.
  • File Management: Maintain organized digital files and revision controls within the document management system.

Requirements

  • Experience: Proven experience in drafting within industrial manufacturing, specifically in compressor packaging, process piping, or rotating equipment.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (2D & 3D).
  • Technical Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of process piping design (flanges, fittings, valves).
  • Familiarity with structural steel detailing for heavy equipment bases.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and OEM equipment drawings.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to spot interferences and ensure dimensional accuracy to minimize rework on the shop floor.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills to coordinate with engineers, fabricators, and vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of ASME B31.3 (Process Piping) and ASME Section VIII (Pressure Vessels) codes.
  • Experience with detailed skid design (lifting lugs, anchor bolt patterns, vibration considerations).
  • A relevant diploma or certification in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology.
