Role overview
The Utilities Specialist is responsible for understanding, monitoring, and optimizing utility usage across the brewery, including natural gas, water, electricity, compressed air, glycol and freon cooling, CO₂, and wastewater. Supports the operation and maintenance of utility systems and site infrastructure, working closely with operators and contractors to ensure safe and efficient performance. Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives aligned with the TTZ (Together Towards Zero) agenda, applies Carlsberg Operational Manual (COM) standards, and provides technical insights to identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiency gains, and best-practice implementation.
What you'll be doing
- Monitor, track, and analyse utility usage across natural gas, water, electricity, compressed air, glycol and freon cooling, CO₂, and wastewater to identify inefficiencies, cost savings, and improvement opportunities.
- Support the operation, inspection, and maintenance of utility systems and site infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance.
- Apply data-driven methodologies, MTBF/MTTR metrics, and best practices to address performance gaps and drive continuous improvement.
- Maintain and optimize the utilities monitoring and targeting system to improve efficiency, accuracy, and visibility of performance data.
- Assist in applying Carlsberg Operational Manual (COM) standards and provide technical insights to site improvement initiatives.
- Facilitate and support training programs to enhance technical knowledge and utility awareness for operators and colleagues.
- Conduct facility walkthroughs, inspections, and equipment/system monitoring to identify potential issues or optimization opportunities and communicate findings to relevant teams.
- Support preventive maintenance planning, inspection routines, and key site initiatives by providing technical input and collaborating with operators.
- Contribute to cost and waste reduction initiatives while maintaining operational integrity and product quality.
- Advise on approaches to achieve clean energy and sustainability goals, including energy efficiency improvements and alternative energy options.
- Collaborate with site teams and external partners to implement solutions, share best practices, and support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with the TTZ (Together Towards Zero) agenda.
- Maintain a deep understanding of utility and waste systems supporting the brewery's manufacturing processes to inform operational improvements and optimization strategies.
What we're looking for
- University degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent technical background).
- 3 years of experience in a manufacturing, with hands-on involvement in utilities or energy management.
- Solid knowledge of process operations and regulatory requirements for utilities.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working with utility data, KPIs, and reporting tools.
- Hands-on, results-driven, and proactive in identifying and implementing practical solutions.
- Knowledge of Ontario utility regulations, environmental compliance, and safety standards.
- Able to collaborate effectively with operators, technical teams, and site leadership.
- Familiarity with Lean / TPM methodologies is an asset.
