Calgary Alberta TP E Canada Helcim Full time

ABOUT HELCIM

Helcim was founded with a mission at heart: to be the world's most loved payment system. We believe that by offering small businesses in North America a decidedly human payment solution where it is easier to sign up and use while being transparent and affordable, we can empower them to grow and prosper. Simply put, helping small businesses thrive is at the very core of our business model, and we think that's a great way to do business.

From the very start, we knew that we wanted to be different from every payment processor out there. We want the merchants we serve to feel supported and see us as a trusted partner rather than simply just another "cost of doing business." We are relentless in our pursuit to provide a radically transparent and honest payments solution that flat out saves business owners money, all while treating them like human beings.

THE POSITION
Helcim is searching for a talented and passionate Credit Risk Analyst to join us on our mission to become the world's most loved payments company.

As our Credit Risk Analyst, you will serve as the operational heartbeat of our risk team, directly managing the credit exposure associated with both new merchant onboarding and the ongoing monitoring of our established portfolio. This is a hands-on role where you will perform detailed underwriting, execute batch reviews, and proactively manage portfolio health. This doesn't mean you are stuck in the weeds, we want someone with the insight to recognize where we can do better.

Your challenge is to balance rigorous daily execution with continuous process improvement. While your primary focus will be on making high-quality credit decisions and managing rolling reviews, you will also play a key role in identifying bottlenecks and refining our operational guidelines to make our credit adjudication sharper and more efficient.

You won't just be looking at numbers; you will communicate directly with merchants to understand their stories, clarify financials, and structure credit terms that allow them to grow while keeping Helcim safe. You will meld your commercial credit expertise with real-world problem solving, collaborating with our Trust and Safety team to run a seamless, precise financial risk mitigation program that scales with us.

Here are the things you'll own day to day:

  • Perform end-to-end credit analysis for new and existing merchants by reviewing financial statements, credit reports, and corporate registrations.
  • Execute routine batch reviews and rolling underwriting to actively monitor portfolio trends and mitigate exposure risks.
  • Communicate directly with business owners to gather documentation, clarify financial positions, and explain credit decisions.
  • Collaborate with the Trust & Safety team on daily risk operations to manage complex cases.
  • Identify workflow bottlenecks and iterate on our credit guidelines to ensure adjudication remains efficient and scalable.
  • Partner with Data, Product, and Engineering teams to provide feedback that drives improvements in our risk tools and decisioning systems.

A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

You're a strategic and empathetic problem-solver with a passion for using data to make informed decisions. You understand that behind every transaction is a human story.

  • You are a strategic operator who executes risk strategies with precision while honoring the human story behind every business.
  • You are a confident communicator who handles difficult merchant conversations regarding credit decisions with empathy and professionalism.
  • You are an adaptable, proactive thinker who thrives in a fast-paced environment and navigates ambiguity with ease.
  • You are curious about financial trends and skilled at applying that knowledge to inform our operational guidelines.
  • You are a systems thinker capable of identifying workflow gaps and collaborating with Trust & Safety to close them.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in commercial credit analysis, underwriting, or portfolio management.
  • Strong proficiency in analyzing financial statements and understanding business models across various industries.
  • Solid foundation in commercial credit principles with a track record of making data-backed decisions.
  • Technical aptitude with a familiarity or willingness to learn SQL to independently query data and build reports for analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to distill complex financial concepts into simple explanations.
  • High degree of organization and detail to manage batch reviews and deadlines accurately.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Knowledge or experience in the payments industry. We believe that if you have a strong background in credit, we can teach you the rest
  • A relevant certification such as CFA or FRM (or are actively pursuing one).

HELCIM CULTURE IS;

Being builders: We build things ourselves and we build them well. We use technology and our creativity to overcome challenges that would seem beyond the capability of a company our size. We improve what is already there, invent our way out of problems and we never stop dreaming of better.

Choosing the harder path: We believe that the right decisions are usually the harder ones, so we embrace the challenge and endure when others quit. We choose what is difficult because it is more rewarding in the long-term, and makes us resilient, so that we not only survive but thrive.

Creating trust: We earn trust by striving to be our best selves every day and by lifting those around us. We recognize that trust is hard to earn, easy to lose and is tested continuously over time, so we make trust our way of life.

Contributing to a company of many: We are stronger because of our collective passion, diversity, and fellowship. We believe only great teams can accomplish great things, and we ask the very best of each other. Together we create our own future.
