Your Opportunity
Working under the general direction of the Director, Information Technology, the incumbent will be responsible for the effective and timely implementation of new systems and technologies in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. This includes leading the planning, coordination, and execution of technology initiatives; assessing departmental needs; and ensuring that deployed solutions align with faculty priorities and institutional standards. The incumbent will collaborate closely with academic, administrative, and technical staff to support teaching, research, and operational objectives, while providing guidance on best practices, emerging technologies, and process improvements. Additionally, the role involves monitoring project progress, identifying and resolving technical challenges, preparing relevant documentation, and contributing to long term strategic planning to enhance the department's overall IT infrastructure and service delivery.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Designing and implementing new operating systems and subsystems server software
- Planning and implementing expansion and enhancement of IT networks independently
- Analyzing, troubleshooting and testing highly complex systems
- Developing and updating architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide IT systems
- Costing shop level projects
- Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years administering Windows and Linux based servers/laptops and desktops
- Minimum two (2) years of proven experience with complex, diverse, structured research computing intake and support; Proven experience with Data Centre IT is considered a strong asset.
- Experience with deploying and configuring virtualized environments including VDI, and containers
- Experience with configuring network infrastructure
- Experience with back-up and storage administration, configuration, and trouble shooting
- Excellent hardware and software troubleshooting skills
- Must have in-depth experience working with a range of computing environments, equipment and software including cloud technologies, Unix/Linux (workstations, servers), Windows (servers, terminal services), Internet services (email, Samba, etc.), networking and security, virtualized servers (proxmox)
