The Specialist – AVI & NSX (Engineering) is responsible for architecting, deploying, supporting, and optimizing the client's application delivery and network virtualization platforms, with a primary focus on AVI Networks (VMware NSX Advanced Load Balancer) and VMware NSX. This engineering-centric role emphasizes designing robust solutions, automating processes, and driving continuous improvement in infrastructure reliability, scalability, and security. The specialist will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative infrastructure engineering solutions aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Engineering & Administration

  • Design, implement, and maintain AVI Networks (NSX ALB) controllers and service engines for optimal performance and scalability.
  • Engineer and automate operational checks, troubleshooting, and incident resolution processes for NSX-T and AVI environments.
  • Lead the planning and execution of upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management for NSX and AVI components.

Infrastructure Design & Optimization

  • Architect network virtualization and load balancing solutions to meet evolving business and technical requirements.
  • Analyze and optimize the performance of platform components, including load balancing, network segmentation, and security policies.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks and inefficiencies in application delivery and NSX network fabric.

Automation & DevOps Integration

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and playbooks (Python, Ansible, PowerShell) for provisioning, configuration, and operational tasks.
  • Integrate infrastructure components with CI/CD pipelines to enable agile deployment and management.
  • Implement infrastructure-as-code practices for repeatable and scalable engineering solutions.

Configuration & Change Management

  • Engineer and document configuration changes following established change management processes.
  • Configure advanced ALB features: Virtual Services, Pools, Health Monitors, SSL/TLS Offloading, GSLB.
  • Design and enforce network security policies, micro-segmentation, and Distributed Firewall rules in NSX-T.

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

  • Partner with application, network, and security engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to project teams during solution design, deployments, and migrations.
  • Develop and enhance operational dashboards (vRealize, Prometheus) to monitor KPIs and SLOs.

Compliance, Security & Documentation

  • Engineer solutions in alignment with organizational security policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular security audits and implement controls to safeguard infrastructure.
  • Maintain comprehensive engineering documentation and generate reports on platform health, incidents, and changes.

Incident Response & Support

  • Providing Level 2/3 engineering support for critical incidents.
  • Lead root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans for infrastructure-related issues.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Experience

3+ years in IT infrastructure engineering, with hands-on experience in AVI Networks and VMware NSX

Proven experience designing and implementing network virtualization, load balancing, and cloud infrastructure solutions

Technical

Strong engineering knowledge of TCP/IP networking, firewalls, routing, switching

Expertise in AVI Networks (NSX ALB) and VMware NSX administration and engineering

Deep operational experience with NSX-T: logical switching, routing, Distributed Firewall

Advanced skills in network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF) and application protocols (HTTP/S, DNS)

Familiarity with public cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP)

Proficiency in scripting, automation, and infrastructure-as-code (Python, PowerShell, Ansible)

Soft Skills

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and engineering skills

Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership abilities

Ability to work independently and as part of a high-performing engineering team

Preferred Certifications

  • VMware Certified Professional – NSX
  • AVI Networks Certification
  • ITIL Foundation or equivalent
