Role Description

We're looking for an experienced
Senior Accountant
to support multiple clients across varied industries. This is a remote, flexible role. You will be responsible for performing senior-level accounting functions, ensuring high quality financial reporting, and contributing to process improvements in client environments. You should thrive in a multi-client, dynamic setting and be comfortable working independently, while coordinating with the broader team at Black Tusk and with our clients and their teams directly.

Key Responsibilities

The exact mix of duties will vary by client, but may include:

• Manage full-cycle accounting: accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, general ledger, accruals, prepaids, etc.
• Prepare, review, and deliver monthly / quarterly / annual financial statements and management reporting packages.
• Develop budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections; analyze variances, trends, and key performance indicators.
• Assist or lead accounting system / ERP / financial tool implementation and upgrades (e.g. adapting client systems, data migration, training).
• Design, document, and monitor internal controls and process improvements.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and tax obligations (as applicable).
• Act as a liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, or other third-party service providers during audits or due diligence.
• Mentor, review work, or oversee junior accounting / bookkeeping staff (if applicable for a client).
• Execute special projects or financial advisory tasks: financial modeling, business valuations, cost analyses, transaction support, etc.
• Adapt and manage multiple client deadlines, priorities, and reporting schedules.

Qualifications & Skills

Required / Strongly Preferred:

• CPA / CA designation (or working toward it) or equivalent professional accounting accreditation.
• 5+ years (ideally 7–10) of progressively responsible accounting experience, with exposure to senior-level tasks.
• Deep technical knowledge of full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting/forecasting.
• Experience with accounting systems (e.g. QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or mid/large ERP systems).
• Strong Excel skills and ability to work with data / reporting tools.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), capable of explaining accounting matters to non-financial stakeholders.
• Proven ability to manage multiple engagements / deadlines, prioritize effectively, work autonomously, and problem-solve.
• Detail-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
• Familiarity with Canadian accounting standards, tax rules, and regulatory environment (especially BC / Canadian) is a plus.
• Prior experience working remotely, in a fractional-client or advisory model, is an advantage.

Working Conditions & Expectations

• Fully remote / work-from-home role with flexible hours but must be able to work independently, meet client deadlines and be available for regular coordination.
• You will manage multiple client engagements, each with its own system, processes, and schedules.
• Occasional peak periods (e.g. month-end, year-end, audits) where extra effort will be required.
• Some occasional travel may be needed (client site visits, meetings) depending on client location and needs.
• You will coordinate with our internal Black Tusk team (e.g. CFOs, controllers, other senior staff) and share best practices across clients.
