Sous Chef

We are a small family-run takeout spot and currently we're in the search to hire the right person to join our team full-time as a Sous Chef. This is a leadership role and the individual will need to have some experience managing a team. This position will also require the individual to work/manage special events and caterings on our Food Truck. (*Please keep in mind that we are not a dine-in restaurant nor sit down establishment).
The role is ideally for someone who can work under minimal supervision, able to work long hours when required, and work well under pressure. This person must be able to take on full responsibilities as a leader and have the drive to learn and grow. This position will provide the right candidate the opportunity to work closely with the Sous Chef and Owner, and under the direction of the Chef, the Sous Chef is responsible for helping to maintain inventory, cost control, food preparation, assisting in overseeing and directing the operation of the kitchen, and in providing functional assistance, especially in the absence of the Sous Chef/Owner.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain a clean and sanitized kitchen, enforce food safety standards for staff and the working environment
- Communicates the restaurant's vision to all team members and leads by example
- Consistently monitors kitchen operations and cleanliness
- Maintain food quality and consistency with an eye for detail in regard to food presentation
- Create dishes according to menu specifications, teach and guide the team accordingly
- Act as a leader/team player and can build relationships between the back and front of the house
- Demonstrates high personal integrity, business ethics and takes every opportunity to promote the restaurant
- Follows proper ordering, inventory and receiving procedures
- Use conflict/resolution and problem-solving skills effectively
- Complete other duties assigned
Qualifications
- Minimal 2 years of kitchen experience in a similar and relevant role
- Catering experience an asset
- Full availability and flexible schedule
- Passion for food & culinary excellence with a passion to learn and grow
- Good Knife Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong sense of urgency
- Speaks fluent English
- Understanding of key food cost measures
- Ability to remain calm under pressure while working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to multitask and prioritize duties
- Food Handler's Certification or willing to obtain one
- Able to stand long period of times
- Hard working and Honest
- Very hands on approach and motivates others by setting the example
- Able to work in all weather type settings
