As a Court Processing Specialist, you are considered the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in all court related documentation and court processes. This position acts as an appointed Peace Officer in relation to swearing to court documentation with laying of charges on behalf of the Calgary Police Service (CPS). The incumbent will provide support and educate Calgary Police Service (CPS) members on best processes regarding legal court documents and quality assurance with court processes. Primary duties include:

  • Review charging packages, from officers and outside agencies are in accordance with legislation and CPS policy and procedures to affect laying of charges by way of information.
  • Provide guidance with case files, court documents and court processes to the Service, outside agencies, Provincial Court of Alberta, Provincial Crown Prosecutor's Office, Special Prosecutions and Federal Prosecutions within legislated requirements.
  • Release of confidential information based on CPS Policy and Procedures and compile required documents for disclosure to the Crown.
  • Authenticate Pertinent information on legal documents utilizing Sentry, Justice Online Information Network (JOIN) and Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC).
  • Advise officers of court attendance on traffic matters.

Working Conditions: Exposure to graphic and disturbing details and materials and work/travel within CPS locations including downtown at Calgary Provincial Traffic Court.

Qualifications

  • A completed 2-year diploma in Justice Studies or related field and a minimum of 5 years relevant and proven experience in court and crown environment.
  • Applicants must be eligible to obtain a Peace Officer appointment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Justice Online Information Network (JOIN), creation of dockets and court processes are required.
  • Previous experience in police or law enforcement environment is an asset.
  • Experience with Sentry, CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre), Content Server and Electronic Disclosure (File Management) are considered assets.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $ per hour

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
