Summary

We are seeking a Communication and Events Specialist to join our team in Surrey. This role is vital in managing the direction and tone of its communications, appeals, campaigns and fundraising events and also providing project management and coordination for all fundraising and awareness events that promote our mission and strengthen community ties.

Responsibilities

Communications:

  • Develop and execute communication strategies to support fundraising goals and donor stewardship.
  • Create compelling content for donor newsletters, campaign materials, social media, and the organization's website.
  • Collaborate with fundraising and program teams to craft impact stories and donor appeals.
  • Manage donor communications calendar and ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Support media outreach and public relations efforts related to fundraising initiatives.
  • Assist in developing concepts and designs, and coordinate mailings of promotional materials and invitations, and logistical planning.
  • Support coordination of social media platform marketing to include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and website content
  • Monitors the analytics of social media accounts and reports or adjusts accordingly.

Events:

  • Plan and execute donor engagement events such as galas, community fundraisers, donor appreciation events, and virtual campaigns.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including venue selection, catering, registrations, speakers, entertainment, volunteer coordination, sponsorship outreach, organizing supplies, managing external vendor relationships, coaching peer-to-peer fundraisers, setting up and tearing down events, coordinating meals and gifts for special events, and acting as the lead point of contact for all events.
  • Ensure and execute all post-event evaluations, thank you notes, and reporting.
  • Develop promotional materials and campaigns to drive attendance and donations.
  • Track event performance and provide post-event analysis and reporting.
  • Ensure events reflect the organization's mission and foster meaningful donor connections.
  • Work with and give guidance to volunteers and staff involved in event planning and execution.
  • Negotiate and contract with vendors for a variety of goods and services related to special event planning.
  • Monitor delivery of goods and services to ensure contract terms are satisfied.
  • Develop and maintain an extensive network of contacts, both internal and external, to facilitate event coordination.
  • Oversee and provide technical support for online fundraising platforms including peer-to-peer fundraising.
  • Implements service support that meet the organizational objections of The Semiahmoo Foundation and it's partner agencies of UNITI.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in communications and event planning, preferably in a non-profit or fundraising environment.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills with a donor-centric approach.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools, social media platforms, and CRM systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
  • Preferred experience with donor management software (e.g., Donor Perfect).
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and donor engagement strategies.
  • A strong commitment to ensuring that the rights of people with developmental disabilities and other stigmas, living and working in the community are protected and respected.
  • Knowledge of the challenges experienced by individuals who face barriers and possible discrimination
  • Non-judgmental and genuine positive attitudes towards all community members;
  • Excellent oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal communication skills in English;
  • Excellent decision making, problem solving and creative thinking skills;
  • Clear ability to work effectively with program staff, volunteers and non-profit, for-profit or publicly funded groups, agencies or organizations;
  • Knowledge of the local community's resources and services including services provided in the Community Living field.
  • Excellent time management; Computer and social media literacy including use of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and liaise with families, and professionals
  • Class 5 driver's license, acceptable driving record, business insurance and daily access to and use of their own vehicle suitable for transporting the person and clients within the Lower Mainland of B.C.
  • A clean and current Criminal Record Check
  • Well-developed planning, organizing, coordinating and administrative skills; and
  • A strong desire to function as part of the staff team of Uniti partners.
