Patient Accounts Representative

This position is responsible for the accuracy of patient insurance and demographic data within the EPIC Hospital Billing module, and to ensure timely and accurate billing of various patient and third party/client accounts. This position is responsible for the following: posting charges on accounts, printing and sending invoices and claim forms to patients and third party agencies, processing and posting payments on accounts and GL, electronic submission and receipt of claims to and from the Ministry of Health and other insurers, following up with various sources to obtain correct patient information for claims rejected by insurers and the assignment of accounts to collection agencies where appropriate.
The successful candidate will handle phone, electronic, mail, and in-person communication with patients, various HHS departments, and various external third party insurance companies in collection of outstanding accounts. They will ensure all supplementary documentation is supplied to account payers in accordance with HHS confidentiality policies. This can include patient demographic data, copies of HHS authorization forms, procedural diagnostic information, as well as patient immigration documentation. Duties also include data entry, review, and edits to patient accounts where applicable and approved by the Revenue Coordinator, and month end processing including revenue-related journal entries. They will be responsible for completing a related business task if required to do so by the Revenue Coordinator and will be required to backfill vacation/sick time for any Accounts Receivable position, if required. They will perform other duties as assigned.
1. Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Business or relevant experience
2. Demonstrated sound knowledge of Meditech, EPIC, Microsoft Office – demonstrated proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook
3. Demonstrated knowledge of OHIP Schedule of Benefits and billing arrangements for other common health insurances
4. Demonstrated experience investigating and corresponding with insurance companies, government agencies or lawyers regarding claims
5. Mathematical skills related to data collection and billing procedures
6. Demonstrated excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and organizational skills
7. Demonstrated understanding and compliance with HHSC Privacy Guidelines
8. Ability to set priorities and organize workload accordingly
9. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
