When you work at the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN), you are part of a supportive, innovative community that works together to help every student achieve success. The DSBN proudly serves 37,500 students with 4,500 staff in 79 elementary and 18 secondary schools across the Niagara Region, located between Lake Erie in the south and Lake Ontario to the north.

The District School Board of Niagara has a position for
Senior Payroll Specialist
in DSBN's Payroll Services Department. Reporting to the Manager, Payroll, the successful applicant will be a key part of the Department, helping the Board meet its payroll compliance standards and regulations. This role will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance of policies, procedures, and pension plans.

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To

  • balances and processes semi-monthly payroll for over 1,000 employees of unionized and non-unionized groups
  • complete pension and account reconciliations
  • analyze and correct discrepancies
  • issue Records of Employment
  • remits payments to third party stakeholders
  • provide excellent customer service when responding to employee inquiries and dealing with other departments
  • take initiative and performs well both independently and as a team player
  • other duties as assigned

Qualifications And Experience

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two (2) years post-secondary education in Business Administration
  • Minimum of three (3) years of payroll and pension experience involving processing payrolls with collective agreements, pensions and benefits using computerized HR/Payroll systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe
  • Experience in a unionized setting is preferred
  • Provision of a satisfactory Police Clearance including Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (PCRJMC) (an original copy date in the last 6 months may be acceptable) is a condition of employment.

This is a 12-month full-time position (35 hours per week) and is part of CUPE-OCTIS Union Group. The role offers a comprehensive benefits plan through a provincial trust plan (extended health, dental, life insurance, AD&D), and enrolment in the OMERS pension plan.
