We are hiring a full-time permanent Senior Advisor, Regulatory Affairs position working out of Edmonton, AB.
The Senior Advisor, Regulatory Affairs leads and coordinates compliance processes and regulatory applications for EDTI. This includes planning, preparing, filing, and defending submissions, while overseeing cross-functional work across business units and corporate teams.
You will build strong relationships within EPCOR and work directly with regulatory bodies such as the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC), and Market Surveillance Administrator (MSA). Responsibilities include representing EPCOR in consultations, managing compliance matters, and analyzing regulatory rule and policy changes to provide expert advice.
This position may be eligible for EPCOR's hybrid work program.
What you'd be responsible for
- Contributing to plans and directions for the Regulatory & Business Planning group
- Preparing various sections of EPCOR Transmission Tariff Applications and other regulatory applications, as well as documentation and submissions required by AUC, AESO and/or MSA regulatory and consultation processes
- Leading the preparation of AUC, AESO and/or MSA regulatory submissions including coordination with other departments to ensure completion of tasks, writing different sections of applications, conducting economic and/or statistical modelling, and providing advice on regulatory requirements
- Managing cross-functional work tasks with peers and senior staff while maintaining strong collaborative relationships
- Leading and coordinating audit processes, including preparation of evidence, information request responses and arguments
- Representing EPCOR in various AUC, AESO and/or MSA working groups or project teams and providing feedback on potential policy/regulatory changes that may affect EPCOR
- Developing, implementing and reviewing AUC, AESO and/or MSA regulatory requirements and processes to ensure EPCOR compliance with policies, standards, regulatory requirements and the mitigation of risks
- Contributing to the development of an annual compliance schedule in coordination with other internal groups
- Contributing to process improvements for efficiency and compliance
What's required to be successful
- Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering or Accounting is required
- 5+ years of experience in the utility industry and regulatory, finance, or engineering roles
- Familiarity with compliance and risk management tools
- Familiarity with the electrical utility business and operations
- Familiarity with financial and budgetary processes and project management
- In-depth knowledge of industry structure, regulatory environments and process, particluarly the AESO and AUC processes
- Understanding of the Electric Utilities Act, Alberta Utilities Commission Act, Hydro and Electric Energies Act, and regulations and rules applicable to EDTI
- Familiarity with Alberta Reliability Standards or Critical Infrastructure Protection Standards
- Familiarity with financial and budgetary processes and project management
- Proven ability to collaborate across technical and business teams
In addition to the required skills, you bring sharp attention to detail and strong analytical abilities, enabling you to manage and evaluate large sets of data against diverse requirements. You excel at distilling complex issues into their essential components and converting technical insights into clear, well-structured content for regulatory filings and submissions, guided by your knowledge of the electricity sector and its compliance standards. Your ability to build relationships and communicate effectively allows you to collaborate across multiple teams, ensuring that compliance matters are thoroughly reviewed, accurate, delivered on time, and aligned with the company's best interests.
