The
Electrode Quality Engineer
is responsible for supporting the operation and development of the Quality Management System (QMS) within the Electrode Quality Assurance organization. This role supports quality laboratory activities, data analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure stable and reliable electrode manufacturing processes. The role involves close collaboration with production, engineering, and quality teams to support quality performance across the organization.

Responsibilities
Engineering Support in the Electrode Quality Assurance Laboratories

  • Support cleanliness and contamination control in the Electrode QA laboratory in accordance with 5S3R standards.
  • Support the writing, maintenance, and updating of Quality Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Support control plan audits and process audits as required.
  • Ensure accurate and standardized collection of inspection and test data.
  • Support capability studies and Measurement System Analysis (GR&R) activities.
  • Assist with laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration tracking, and asset management.
  • Support training of operators and engineers on quality standards, inspection methods, and procedural updates.
  • Participate in Line Patrol Audits, Process Patrol Audits, Layered Process Audits, and Vision System Audits.

Data Analysis, Problem Solving, and Continuous Improvement

  • Collect, structure, transform, and analyze large volumes of inspection, process, and quality data.
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and sources of variation through exploratory and statistical analysis.
  • Support proactive identification of quality risks and potential failure modes through data-driven analysis.
  • Support root-cause analysis activities by identifying contributing factors prior to nonconformance events.
  • Track and analyze Statistical Process Control (SPC) data to support process stability and early detection of drift.
  • Develop data-driven insights to support continuous improvement and preventative quality initiatives.
  • Create, populate, and maintain databases or datasets used for validation activities, test results, and quality metrics.
  • Support reporting and interpretation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to product, process, and system quality.
  • Review, collect, and analyze data on quality procedures to continuously improve plant targets.
  • Support application of quality methodologies such as Six Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), and Measurement System Analysis.
  • Create, populate, or maintain databases for tracking validation activities, test results, or validated systems; utilize required software.
  • Leading 8D problem solving (root cause analysis) for internal & customer issue, with the ability to recommend resolution of identified deviations from established product or process standards.
  • Demonstrate strong professional work ethic, ownership, and accountability in execution of assigned responsibilities.

Communication, Collaboration, and Quality System Support

  • Support part verification and approval activities related to engineering changes.
  • Provide quality-related data and analytical findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Support preparation of documentation related to regulatory, customer, and quality system requirements.
  • Participate in cross-functional quality projects throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support IATF 16949 and other Quality Management System activities.
  • Participate in internal and external training to continuously develop technical, analytical, and quality-related skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a scientific discipline such as Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or other quantitative natural sciences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a scientific approach to data and experimentation.
  • Basic experience with coding or computational tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R, or similar).
  • Ability to work with data, including basic data manipulation, transformation, and analysis.
  • Strong curiosity, learning mindset, and ability to work independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate laboratory, research, or data-intensive project experience.
  • Exposure to data analysis, statistical methods, or computational modeling.
  • Familiarity with quality concepts, manufacturing processes, or quality systems (QMS, SPC, MSA) is an asset.
  • Experience using analytical or statistical software tools (e.g., Minitab) is an asset.
  • Interest in continuous improvement, preventative quality, and problem analysis.
