The Town of New Tecumseth is looking for a Communications Officer to join our rapidly growing team.

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications, this position is responsible for implementing strategic, integrated communication strategy, plans and community engagement initiatives that advance the Municipalitys brand.

What we promise:

  • Ensures corporate communications are distributed in a cost-effective, efficient, and strategic manner and that methods of distribution aim to maximize exposure to the intended audience.
  • Oversees, and implements communications plans and projects by identifying emerging issues, monitoring the online communications landscape (social, media, web) and providing strategic communications recommendations.
  • Prepares reports, makes recommendations and presentations and attends Council/Committee, corporate events and/or other meetings, as required.
  • Working with the appropriate departments, determines media requirements for advertising campaigns. Using a strategic approach, determines the budget, plans the frequency and placement of advertising and arranges purchasing of all corporate advertising.
  • Lead the development/implementation of aspects of the Corporation s communications and marketing strategy and communications projects which include photography, videography, graphic design, website, print, advertising, and social media
  • Oversees the Town s corporate social media accounts, including developing, implementing, monitoring social media messages and multi-media content and analyzes social media strategies.
  • Collaborates with all departments to manage the Town s reputation - building trust and confidence in the corporate brand.
  • Monitors analytics and effectiveness of public relations, media and social media strategies and provides
  • recommendations to improve progress and effectiveness.
  • Develops and maintains a working relationship and a liaison role with local media partners.
  • Acts as the alternate Public Information Officer in support of the Town s Emergency Management Team.
  • Provides website content support to departments and content contributors, including training
  • Research and develop communications including themes and key messages for a wide variety of mediums and audiences such as presentations, social media, web, advertising, surveys, marketing/brochures, and various internal documentation
  • Regularly participates in professional development activities to keep abreast of trends and possible cooperative programs. Reviews literature, and otherwise keeps current of industry and communication trends.

How you contribute to our organization:

  • 4-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
  • Advanced knowledge using relevant graphic design software applications (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), website content moderation systems and social media. Experience in video production/editing and Premiere Pro required.
  • Requires good knowledge of applicable legislation, standard practices, and guidelines such as Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy legislation, Canadian Press Style guidelines, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act requirements and guidelines for creating compliant communication products.
  • Knowledge of the local area and community leaders is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively and tactfully with a broad range of staff, elected officials, external agencies, the media, general public and other levels of government.
  • Valid G licence and ability to travel throughout the town.
  • Requires some evening and weekend hours.
  • Requires demonstrated, successful experience with public and media relations.
  • Requires a sound understanding of the business of municipal government, including the municipal relationship with upper tier municipalities, the province, and the federal government

Salary:
$76,653.40 up to 97,323.14, plus employer paid benefits and OMERS pension plan

Hours:
35 hours per week, 8:30 a.m - 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, evenings and weekends as required

: Town Administration Centre, 24 Tupper Street West, Alliston
