The SAFE Society in Salmon Arm is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Finance Officer to support our finance operations.
Located in the beautiful Secwépemcul'ecw (Shuswap) region of British Columbia, the Shuswap Area Family Emergency Society (SAFE Society) is a registered charitable society that provides a broad spectrum of services to persons who are impacted by abuse. The SAFE Society works from an intersectional feminist and trauma-informed philosophy.

Hours: 7 hours per week, with potential in future for additional hours to a total of 14
Start date: January 5, 2026
Wage & benefits: $25.00 per hour
Job Summary
Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role is responsible for handling day-to-day financial tasks including accounts payable, accounts receivable, helping with payroll processing, bank reconciliations, and general office administration. The ideal candidate will have experience with SAGE accounting software and solid computer skills. Experience with Payworks payroll software is considered an asset.
Qualifications and Experience
· Prior experience in a finance or accounting support role
· Experience processing payroll and understanding of payroll regulations
· Proficiency in SAGE accounting software is considered an essential asset
· Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
· High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial record keeping
· Excellent organizational and time management skills
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to plan and set weekly goals (Highly organized)
- Ability and willingness to adapt to a flexible work schedule, depending on the needs of the organization.
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Willingness to learn payroll functions and support HR Manager with payroll and all benefit applications and WCB financial reports
Job Duties:
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Process accounts payable and ensure timely payment of vendor invoices
- Manage accounts receivable, including issuing invoices and following up on outstanding accounts
- Help FM create and perform bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial records
- Help process bi-weekly payroll in compliance with applicable legislation and company policies
- Help FM maintain onsite payroll records, employee files, and support year-end payroll reporting (e.g., T4s)
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Support the Finance Manager with financial reporting, data entry, and reconciliations
- Maintain organized filing systems for financial and payroll documents on site
· Handle invoice submissions and payment-related inquiries from vendors and donors.
- Track donation contributions in CRJ receipting in-kind and cash donations weekly
- Make bank deposits
- Reconcile Petty Cash
- Perform general office and administrative duties as needed
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and company procedures
- Financial systems: Maintain the general ledger and financial systems, propose and implement system/process improvements.
Skills, Abilities and Qualities
- Experience using Payworks payroll software
- Education or certification in Accounting, Payroll, or related field
- Knowledge of general accounting principles and financial practices
- Ability to function independently and frequently under pressure, in an often-chaotic environment, while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
· Performs other related duties as required.
Additional Requirements
· A Criminal Record Check for working with children and/or vulnerable persons.
· A valid driver's license and availability of a personal vehicle in good operating condition required to run Agency errands.
Working Conditions and Other Details
· Part-time office-based location in shared office space with occasional after-hours during month/quarter close or audits. Travel may be required for audits or vendor visits.
