NATURE OF THE WORK

As the child and youth worker, you will be responsible for ensuring direct services, such as school groups, one-on-one counselling, parenting support, identification and response of needs, are offered to youth aged 6-21 years and their families. You will be part of the Family and Community team and the multi-service Centre, and liaise with the community as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Assess the needs of children, youth, and families and coordinate appropriate resources and services to address those needs.

· Provide one-on-one counseling and facilitate school or group workshops on a variety of topics relevant to children and youth.

· Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies or urgent situations.

· Refer clients to internal and external services and advocate on their behalf as needed.

· Contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs that meet the identified needs of clients.

· Provide information, support, and advocacy to ensure clients can access available community services.

· Address client concerns, complaints, or service issues, escalating when necessary.

· Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders.

· Participate actively in team meetings, professional development, and centre-wide initiatives.

WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO FIND IN YOU

· BSW, university degree in another related discipline or diploma in social work with relevant experience.

· A minimum of two years' experience in youth-related programming

· Experience in a social service setting

· Knowledge of MS Office Applications, and experience working within a Client Information Management System.

· Ability to work independently and take initiative

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.

· Excellent communication skills

· Demonstrated understanding of issues facing youth

· Thorough knowledge and understanding of community resources

· Ability to provide clients with a welcoming, compassionate, and safe environment

· Fluency in oral and written communication skills in English and French. French language skills are mandatory.

· Organizational and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends.

· Access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license.
