Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Temporary Housing & Relations Support Worker to join our team at Inn from the Cold. This role supports families through an Indigenous worldview, identifying barriers to housing stability and fostering progress toward independence. By integrating culturally appropriate services, the position plays a vital role in strengthening family connections, fostering healing, and guiding families on their journey toward stability, self-sufficiency, and sustainable housing.
What You'll Do
- Support families in securing housing (including support with online housing search, contact and communication with landlords, attending of housing viewings.)
- Liaise with partner landlords and community housing providers regularly; regarding available housing, client tenancy issues, rent payment and subsidies.
- Assist families with case plan development, identifying goals, barriers and support them in achieving those goals and overcoming barriers.
- Work from a trauma-informed, Housing First, Indigenous Family Harm Reduction Model approach to provide individualized support to families.
- Offer families support and resources to maintain a healthy and safe lifestyle through skill building, safety planning and wellness planning.
- Provide support connecting families to programming and activities that are based in Indigenous worldview and cultural traditions.
- Work collaboratively with the Indigenous Engagement team on joint completion of tasks/activities/family events as required.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation with families ensuring case notes, assessments, and other records are accurate and entered in the designated client information management system (HOMES) in a timely fashion.
This position description reflects the general duties of the role, but is not intended to include all duties that may be inherent in the position. The Temporary Housing & Relations Support Worker may be asked to perform other duties as required or assigned.
What You Bring to Our Mission
- Experience working with Indigenous people, communities and organizations and a strong network of relationships in the Indigenous community.
- Knowledge and experience of Indigenous cultures, worldview and history.
- Lived Indigenous experience is valued and respectfully preferred.
- Completion of a diploma or degree program related to social work, family case management, or human services is preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills in MS Word, Excel, and e-mail
- Current First Aid/CPR and Suicide Intervention Certification. Training can be provided if required.
- Excellent teamwork and team-building skills.
- Strong work ethic, sound judgment and reasoning skills, along with a commitment to discretion and family and staff confidentiality.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills that allow one to work effectively with a diverse range of persons.
- Physically able to perform all assigned tasks.
- Interact with families, staff, volunteers, relevant government agencies, and sector partners.
- Police check and Child Intervention checks are required for employment.
