Overview
BGC South East is seeking a Community Café Support Associate to assist with the daily operations of our community café. Working closely with the Café Manager, this role helps ensure a welcoming environment by preparing food, supporting customer service, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, and passionate about providing quality service to children, youth, families, staff, and community members.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals in alignment with Canada's Food Guide and health regulations
- Follow safe food handling and storage procedures at all times
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, café area, pantry, and storage spaces
- Support café sales and other revenue-generating activities
- Provide friendly, professional customer service
- Operate the POS system accurately and handle cash responsibly
- Assist with café operations when the Café Manager is unavailable
- Open and close the kitchen, ensuring equipment is safely shut down and stored
- Work collaboratively with a diverse and inclusive team
- Serve as a positive representative of BGC South East in the community
Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a kitchen or food service setting
- Valid WHMIS and Food Handler certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Up-to-date TDP (TDAP/Adacel/10-year booster) and MMR immunizations
- Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (within last 6 months)
- Standard First Aid / CPR Level C certification
Job Specifications
- Able to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision
- Strong teamwork, communication, and mentoring skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, child- and youth-friendly environment
- Flexible and adaptable to changing needs and situations
