YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community. YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focused programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq. ft. of dock and has 60 buildings.

The Day Camp Coordinator oversees the Little Critters and Nature Explorers Day Camp programs, providing supervision and guidance to the Day Camp Program Head and Day Camp Counsellors. A primary responsibility is to set expectations and support the Program Head in developing engaging, age-appropriate programming for campers aged 4–12. The role works closely with a team of 7–9 Counsellors to ensure the delivery of a safe, fun, and outdoor-focused camp experience while providing timely feedback and mentorship to support staff growth.

The Day Camp Coordinator serves as the main liaison with families, ensuring a seamless customer service experience and consistent program delivery each week. Additionally, the position collaborates with the camp team to plan schedules, manage program spaces and equipment, and balance time between campers, families, and staff to create a rewarding day camp environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Plan and schedule all Day Camp programs in collaboration with the Day Camp Program Head and work with the Program Coordinator to ensure schedules and spaces do not overlap
  • Provide leadership to the camp staff team by training, coaching, motivating, monitoring performance, and delivering mid- and end-of-summer performance appraisals to ensure staff meet role expectations and achieve camp objectives
  • Oversee the Day Camp program, ensuring successful implementation of program plans for campers aged 4–12 and maintaining consistent program delivery from week to week
  • Build and maintain relationships with families, staff, volunteers, and community partners
  • Serve as the first point of contact daily for each day camper and their family, managing communication via Y email and the Day Camp phone
  • Supervise the running of the value-beads program at the end of each day
  • Perform other duties as assigned

You bring:

  • Current National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification required by the first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of your contract
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in child-oriented programs
  • Minimum 2 years' previous experience as a supervisor (i.e., Counselling Supervisor) in a directly transferable setting
  • Experience with program planning for children aged 4–12
  • Valid driver's license considered an asset
  • Ability to communicate ideas, rules, and concepts effectively in an engaging, entertaining, and supportive manner
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and empower an inclusive staff team
  • Ability to lead other staff and provide feedback on an ongoing basis
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays required
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and building a sense of belonging
