About the Role
The People and Culture Business Partner is a key strategic and operational role within the People and Culture team. The primary purpose of this role is to build strong, trust-based relationships between People and Culture and the broader organization by delivering proactive, solutions-oriented support to employees and leaders. This role acts as an expert advisor for people leaders within the organization and advises them on People and Culture pillars of Compensation and Benefits, Training and Development, Labour Laws and Labour Relations, as well as Employee Experience. The People and Culture Business Partner will function collaboratively with organizational leadership to ensure best practices are followed, and employees are supported through their employment cycle with the organization.
The People and Culture Business Partner will:
- Act as the first point of contact in responding to employee concerns, grievances and investigations ensuring collective agreement compliance.
- Interpret and apply organizational policies, procedures and the collective agreement with consistency.
- Establish and foster respectful and trusting working relationships with organizational leaders and the union.
- Support leaders in managing performance and workplace concerns with a focus on early intervention and collaboration.
- Support the resolution of employee relations issues through coaching, conflict resolution, and progressive discipline, under the direction of the Manager, People and Culture.
- Recommend improvements to People and Culture programs and services based on best practices and organizational needs.
- Lead the employee accommodation process in collaboration with the manager, employee and union Labour Relations Officer, ensuring appropriate paperwork, follow up and request for Independent Medical Examination, as required.
- Provide employees with guidance on organizational benefits plans, leaves and legislative rights (i.e. short-term disability, long-term disability, parental leave and other leaves).
- Provide guidance to leaders and employees on the organization's performance evaluation process and cycle.
- Collaborate with hiring managers to proactively determine future and current staffing needs and support the position management process.
- Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition Specialist to ensure job postings follow union and labour requirements, embrace IDEA best practices and equitable hiring processes.
- Conduct exit and stay interviews, compile reports and identify organizational and departmental themes.
- Deliver employee information sessions to ensure employees can receive information about People and Culture-related organizational changes that may impact their roles.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- A minimum of three to five years of human resources generalist experience.
- CPHR designation is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a unionized, healthcare/mental health environment is considered an asset.
- A minimum if one to three years of experience in employee and labour relations, including conducting investigations, supporting progressive discipline and managing terminations.
- Working knowledge of multiple human resources disciplines including, recruitment, performance management, organizational development and diagnosis, diversity and inclusion, and employee and labour relations.
- Demonstrated ability to build and develop relationships while establishing trust and credibility with internal and external stakeholders.
- Comprehensive knowledge of HR-related legislation such as Employment Standards, Workers' Compensation Board and Human Rights.
- A proven self-starter that is eager to learn and tackle multiple projects with competing timelines.
- Strong critical thinking skills.
- Proven ability to shift priorities as needed.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- This role may be eligible for hybrid work.
- Travel to different CASA locations is required.
