Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Labour Relations and Human Resources, the HR Business Partner (HRBP) acts as a strategic partner to management with a primary focus on labour relations. The role includes union engagement, grievance management, collective bargaining support, and workplace investigations, while providing guidance on HR policies and practices. The HRBP ensures compliance with employment legislation and collective agreements and collaborates with leaders to implement people strategies aligned with business objectives and corporate HR goals. Occasional travel to various sites is required.

The ideal candidate brings extensive labour relations experience, strong relationship-building and problem-solving skills, and works closely with leaders and the HR team to deliver effective HR solutions that support organizational success.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with client group leadership to deliver HR expertise aligned with organizational culture and strategy, including employee relations, performance management, disability management, disciplinary actions, terminations, investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Collaborate with leaders and union representatives to resolve workplace issues, manage grievances (up to arbitration), and participate in collective bargaining negotiations.
  • Interpret and apply collective agreements, ensuring compliance in all HR, Human Rights and labour relations activities.
  • Provide guidance on policy interpretation and ensure timely communication of new policies and procedures.
  • Manage layoff and recall processes on behalf of client groups in compliance with collective agreements.
  • Manage workplace investigations and related employee relations matters, ensuring objective findings and compliance with policies and legislation.
  • Support proactive employee and labour relations by identifying issues, risks, and opportunities to meet business needs.
  • Assist with learning and development, performance management, engagement initiatives, and HR projects aligned with business strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, regulatory standards, and organizational policies.
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records in the HRIS; collaborate with Payroll, Benefits, and Health & Abilities teams to ensure seamless processes.
  • Travel to various company locations, including remote sites, as required.
  • Oversee full-cycle recruitment and onboarding for client groups.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience with emphasis on labour relations, grievance handling (including arbitration), workplace investigaitons, and collective agreement interpretation.
  • Proven ability to partner with leaders and union representatives to resolve workplace issues, manage grievances, and participate in collective bargaining.
  • Experience managing HR functions across Canadian provinces and U.S. states, ensuring compliance with employment legislation and collective agreements.
  • Expertise in layoff/recall processes and advising on disciplinary actions, terminations, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. employment laws, HR best practices.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion.
  • HR certification (e.g., CPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred.
  • Ability to travel to company locations in Canada and the U.S., including remote sites, as required; Class 5 Operator's Licence with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French is considered an asset.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and/or facilitating training programs is considered an asset.
