Detailed Overview:

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:

The Lead, Indigenous Facilities Design, is responsible for supporting Fraser Health's (FH) commitment to advance cultural safety and cultural humility throughout the organization. The Lead contributes to the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of the organization's cultural safety initiatives by supporting the creation of safe, inclusive and respectful facilities. As a member of the Indigenous Health team and the Facility Management team, the Lead guides discussions in support of the organizations strategic priority on cultural safety and humility within key facility projects, and promotes positive dialogue and meaningful inclusion of First Nations, M�tis and Inuit community priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with relevant internal and external stakeholders, including Indigenous community partners, government partners and regional health authorities, to support FH's commitment to advancing cultural humility and cultural safety within the context of facility planning and design.
  • Functions as the Indigenous Health and Cultural Safety point of contact for assigned facility initiatives; liaises with internal and external stakeholders; and coordinates information flow related to assigned initiatives to ensure timely and responsive communications.
  • Partners with Facilities Clinical Planners to ensure the inclusion of Indigenous Health and Cultural Safety elements in the development of documents such as project charters, business cases and functional programs.
  • Acts as a liaison and engagement leader with the objective of ensuring Indigenous Health and Cultural Safety is represented throughout continuum of facility planning (i.e. facility clinical strategy, service planning, functional assessments).
  • Delivers organization-wide, initiative specific presentations that demonstrate and highlight FH's commitment to Indigenous Health and Cultural Safety.
  • As part of a multi-disciplinary team, collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to promote dialogue and problem solve facility design issues affecting Indigenous individuals, families and communities.
  • Analyzes and compiles applicable data; maintains related databases, prepares and submits a variety of reports reflecting milestones, goals and objectives. Provides updates on activities including key challenges and successes.
  • Prepares and submits periodic reports that evaluate the quality of the program and resulting achievements to ensure alignment with the FH Anti-Racism Strategy and Action Plan.
  • Contributes to briefing notes, business cases, issue analyses, impact assessments and risk evaluations by gathering facts, analyzing issues, drawing conclusions and making recommendations; prepares final reports and presentations for use by internal and external clients.
  • Participates in and contributes to ongoing dialogue with external stakeholders including foundations, the Ministry of Health, and First Nation Communities, M�tis Chartered Communities and relevant Indigenous Service Agencies on issues related to facilities project planning, design, and project implementation within limits as established by the Planning & Projects Directors.
  • Participates on assigned internal and external committees, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in a relevant health care discipline and three (3) to six (6) years' recent, related Indigenous health experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Professional/Technical Capabilities

  • Knowledge of Indigenous health/health care needs in facility planning and service delivery contexts, including knowledge and understanding of community-based services such as community health centers and Indigenous service providers.
  • Knowledge of the cultures, protocols and traditions of Indigenous peoples to honor established and new relationships as a representative of the health authority.
  • Demonstrated community engagement skills including the ability to promote positive dialogue in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment with changing priorities including ability to manage multiple projects/tasks.
