How will you make an impact in this role?

The Senior Manager, New Product Development is an exciting and dynamic role which offers the opportunity to lead and partner on strategic product and capability development and redesign initiatives focused on creating superior customer experience, sustainable competitive advantage, and as a result, profitable growth. The role requires the individual to lead, collaborate and partner with stakeholders across the blue box to identify opportunities, develop the strategy, ensure alignment, and drive the flawless execution of projects & initiatives.

With some high-profile projects scheduled to be delivered in 2026 and beyond, the New Product Development team continues to be an exciting area of opportunity and remains a key strategic focus for the market. The role offers the unique opportunity to work across a variety of areas including:

  • Payments, Lending, Charge, Proprietary and Co-Brand.

  • Driving digital first agenda through capability development and implementation.

  • Competitor analysis and opportunity sizing, including working closely with Global Marketplace Insights and Enterprise Analytics to define design target and growth opportunity.

  • Conducting financial analysis in partnership with Finance on opportunities.

  • Leading project scoping, feasibility analysis, and build discovery in close partnership with Tech. 

  • Developing and executing on go-to-market strategy working closely with product owners and acquisition.

  • Project and stakeholder management, working closely with Technologies, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Global Servicing Network, Operations, Training and many other groups.

  • Leading the way on market-wide strategic payment trend and competitive and AXP implication assessment.

  • Working with Central and International teams to share best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Analytics into Strategy – Interpret vast amount of internal and external data, identify opportunities and recommend business strategy.

    • Identify current and future customer needs.

    • Understand competitor offerings and threats.

    • Translate external influences (regulatory, technology, economic & consumer trends) into opportunities or threats.

    • Idea generation.

    • Analyze size of opportunity for new and redesigned products.

    • Assess financials / business case for revised and new product.

  • Project Management – Develop and implement key capabilities to drive growth in partnership with other organizations (technology, operations, legal, compliance, finance, risk, and many other local and central teams).

    • Lead major change across multiple business functions.

    • Understand and follow internal New Product Development processes.

    • Work closely in particular with Technology teams to drive through 'build' and 'implementation' stages of projects.

    • Risk and issues management.

    • Ensure smooth transition from development to a completed project and an easy transition of ownership back across to portfolio management team.

  • Relationship Management – Build a common vision between business stakeholders in order to drive portfolio/business strategy.

    • Influence to gain initial stakeholder buy-in.

    • Manage and Lead stakeholders and contributors throughout NPD process.

    • Drive support and ensure alignment during changes to scope and in finding resolution of issue.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to lead with an external mind-set as it relates to market innovation and its impact on Amex Canada.

  • Strong strategic thinking with a focus on innovation and the desire to own a project from conception through implementation, and evaluation.

  • Demonstrated ability with multi-tasking, project management, attention to detail and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated communications skills, both written and verbal.

  • A proven ability to challenge the status quo, improve existing processes, and lead through ambiguity.

  • Excellent relationship building and partner management, and comfort working across various levels within an organization to drive results.
