Job Description:

Our client is a dynamic and rapidly expanding organization with a strong presence in the construction industry. They are seeking a highly experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join the finance team.

This role will be instrumental in supporting daily accounting functions, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and external regulations. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in financial reporting, a proactive mindset, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting across all entities. This role will support the Controller in managing day-to-day accounting functions, lead reconciliation efforts, and help implement and refine processes in Business Central. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable navigating complex intercompany transactions and ERP systems.

Key Responsibilities:

General Ledger & Period Close:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes across multiple entities.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including intercompany eliminations and accruals.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger/subledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Support year-end income statement closing and retained earnings allocations in Business Central.

Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare financial reports and dashboards for management review.
  • Contribute to the development of reporting strategies and system-generated insights.
  • Conduct financial variance analysis.
  • Maintain and support the fixed asset listing and related documentation.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities across multiple entities, including cash flow management.

Audit & Tax Support:

  • Support year-end audits and liaise with external auditors.
  • Organize tax files and ensure compliance with CRA and ASPE standards.
  • Prepare and submit supplier rebates and other regulatory filings.
  • Support the controller with GST remittances and income tax installments to CRA.

Mentorship & Collaboration:

Provide guidance and training to junior staff and temporary hires.

ERP & Software Proficiency:

  • Experience with Business Central is highly valued.
  • Ability to analyze variances between general ledger, subledger, and ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, and Cosmos reporting is a plus.

Key Requirements:

  • Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Accounting or Finance. 
  • CPA designation is preferred, or at least 5 years in a senior accounting role.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics Business Central or similar ERP systems.
  • Cosmos reporting experience is considered an asset.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and conditional formatting.
  • Experience with RBC PayEdge and payment run reconciliation is an asset.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
