POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dietary Aid – Community Support Services (DA-CSS) assists in providing quality food services which enrich the health and well-being of clients. DA-CSS perform dietary and kitchen functions in a compassionate manner, promoting high standards of service, nutrition, hygiene and safety each day.
Through their work, the DA-CSS contributes to individuals being able to feel independent in their living arrangements.
The DA-CSS supports the Manager – Food Services in the effective and efficient delivery of program level food services, and in maintaining high standards of safety and person-centered customer service.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assisting with ordering of dietary and kitchen supplies from food suppliers as needed
- Following all aspects of food safety, as per departmental procedures governing food preparation and sanitation
- Assembling prepared meals and unprepared meals
- Reheating and cooking meals, carries out pre-meal food preparation, including temperature monitoring
- Setting tables for dining
- Assisting customers who require physical support in dining
- Meal and grocery delivery to clients
- Process payment of meals through Credit card/and or debit
- Following all safety and food preparation policies and procedures established by SJHC
- Providing clean-up, including but not limited to, clearing and washing of tables, dishwashing, floor sweeping, garbage disposal, etc
- Maintaining appropriate records as per SJHC standards
- Reporting client concerns/issues and/or program related matters to the Manager or Supervisor
- Assisting with training co-workers as needed
- Engaging clients in positive/social conversations
- Demonstrating sensitivity and respect to clients who may be experiencing physical health challenges
- Demonstrating a positive attitude and approach towards customers as unique individuals
- Answering customer questions in a friendly and polite manner
- Following daily meal preparation schedules as determined by the Manager
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organized work environment
- Participating in team/group meetings
- Other duties as requested or required

- Maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of all personal health records (including both client and personal), and following all the privacy and confidentiality requirements of any and all electronic medical record systems used (including but not limited to Procura and HPG)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 Graduation Diploma or combined education and work experience, required
- Dietary Aide Certificate or equivalent, preferred
- Food Handling Safety Certificate, required
- 1 year previous experience in food service, preferred
- Previous customer service experience, required
- Previous experience in a hospital, retirement home or long term care facility, preferred
- Previous experience with elderly/different abled customers, preferred
