About the Role

Contango is hiring an automation specialist to own, improve, and create workflows that power internal reporting and customer deliverables. You will design, build, and maintain automations that move data reliably from source to output by integrating APIs, processing files, and delivering standardized datasets and reports stakeholders can trust.

Strong Python is essential, as many core workflows and data products are built in Python. You will also identify opportunities to apply AI-enabled tools to reduce manual effort, improve data quality, and streamline how information is produced and delivered.

Alongside scheduled automations, you will tackle ad hoc projects that solve stakeholder problems, eliminate repetitive tasks, and strengthen the reliability of operational outputs.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance Python automations running on varying schedules
• Build and improve integrations with external APIs, including authentication, pagination, and validation
• Support web-scraping workflows where APIs are unavailable
• Automate file-based processes such as downloading, organizing, validating, and transforming outputs
• Evaluate opportunities to apply AI-enabled automation to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve data processing
• Improve reliability through logging, retries, alerts, and safe re-runs
• Create and maintain documentation and runbooks for critical workflows
• Support internal reporting refreshes and troubleshoot data issues
• Develop and maintain customer-facing data outputs
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements and acceptance criteria
• Investigate data issues and implement fixes, validation checks, and monitoring

Position Requirements

• Strong Python experience with a focus on reliability and maintainability
• Experience working with data (CSV, Excel; pandas preferred)
• Experience consuming data from APIs and/or web sources
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to communicate with non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have

• Experience with web scraping tools (BeautifulSoup, Selenium, Playwright)
• SQL fundamentals
• Power BI familiarity
• Experience with scheduling tools (Task Scheduler, Airflow, Prefect)
• Cloud fundamentals and secrets management
• Interest in learning and applying AI-enabled automation tools
