The Opportunity

The Automation Operations Engineering within TC Energy's Canada Operations Technical Services is seeking problem-solving professionals to provide exceptional engineering support to our Canada Gas Operations teams. We play a vital role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of compression and measurement facility assets – delivering the energy that powers communities every day.
As part of our team, you'll be at the forefront of enhancing industrial control systems for remote monitoring and control, tackling operational challenges, and implementing strategic improvements that elevate safety, cyber security, and overall reliability. What You'll Do
- Support Field Operations and Specialist teams as they diagnose and resolve operational issues while managing constraints imposed by safety, regulations, equipment availability, practicality, and cost
- Participate in the Field Automation Support Team delivering rotational on-call support approximately 1 week in 8 to resolve after-hours control system issues.
- Apply proactive asset management leveraging multiple data sources to get insights to drive action ensuring the reliability and availability of field automation systems.
- Identify and implement opportunities to automate system maintenance activities
- Investigate and understand the secure network rules and connections to identify and resolve data transmission issues between site & data center systems
- Lead structured Risk Assessments of automation issues and contribute automation discipline expertise to multi-discipline Risk Assessments following Canada Gas & TC Operational Risk Management processes.
- Develop, prioritize, and deliver safe and compliant automation engineering design for automation software programs, and human-machine interface (HMI) changes for control systems, resolving facility reliability and operational issues in alignment with Company management of change (MOC) and practice of engineering (POE) procedures
- Develop detailed project scopes for facility improvement work based on established site equipment condition, company asset lifecycle strategies, engineering standards, and best practices
- Contribute lessons learned to improve Company engineering standards, specifications, and our operations by optimizing lifecycle cost, risk, and performance
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Software Engineering
- Must be registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer (P. Eng)
- 1-5 years of applicable experience
- Self-driven learning, engaging team members for guidance and mentorship
- Collaborative, results oriented project and task delivery
- Strong communication skills ensuring peers and leaders understand tactical and strategic goals, progress, value and outcomes
Preferred Requirements
- Experience developing automation & control system engineering deliverables, specifically control narrative documents, cause-effect diagrams, control panel designs, software and equipment testing
- Experience implementing facility control systems including RTU/PLC and HMI (Emerson ControlWave Micro, Rockwell RS Logix, Emerson RX3i, Wonderware System Platform & Pi System)
- Experience developing, testing and optimizing HMI systems ensuring operability and ease of use
- Experience troubleshooting network systems including firewalls and switches
- Experience with database design, management, and data visualization
- Experience designing and maintaining scripts to automate Windows system tasks
- Understanding the engineering design process including design review cycles, transmittal, sign-off, and authentication requirements
