Primary Duties

Reporting to the Supervisor, Hydro Operations and taking direction from the Lead Electrical Engineer, the successful student's primary duties will include:

1. Responsible for data collection including asset condition data and system characteristics (voltage, current, power quality etc.).

2. Update and/or create drawings for electrical layouts, single line diagrams and schematics.

3. Assist engineers with design revisions in AutoCAD.

4. Assist with distribution planning, electrification. historic load data analysis, load forecasting, economic evaluation and other calculations as required.

5. Assist with visual field inspections of electrical assets during construction especially civil work (electrical ducts, pole holes, anchors, etc.).

6. Prepare, maintain and file work orders, inspection reports, maintenance logs and other documentation as required.

7. Assist with review of DER applications.

8. Assist with preparing electric distribution material purchasing specifications.

9. Assist with compliance documentation for Electrical Distribution Safety Regulation (EDSR) and OEB regulatory requirements.

Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required

1. Currently enrolled in an Electrical Engineering Undergraduate or Electrical Engineering Technology program.

2. Strong interest in power systems and utility operations.

3. Basic knowledge of electrical principles and safety practices.

4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience with Sharepoint, enterprise Databases, electric modeling applications (CYME, ETAP, DESS, etc.), AutoCAD, GIS, FME and Python is an asset.

Special Working Conditions/Conditions of Employment

1. Full-time student at a recognized post-secondary educational institution and returning to full time attendance in the Fall of 2026.

2. Completion of a Criminal Record Check at the employee's own expense, and to the satisfaction of Utilities Kingston.

3. Valid Class 'G' driver's license.

This vacancy is available to give students practical, hands-on experience during the summer months while supporting our team with regular operations.
