Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Regulations Officer, the Planning and Regulations Analyst is responsible and accountable for the review and administration of:

  • Permit applications and approvals under the Conservation Authorities Act and Ontario Regulation 41/24
  • Site Plans, Minor Variances, Severances, and Niagara Escarpment Development Permits
  • Responding to general and solicitor inquiries, conducting site visits, and completing compliance activities including site inspections

In this position you will provide municipal plan review activities within the Environmental Planning Program, as well as coordinate and administer Permit applications pursuant to the Conservation Authorities Act and Ontario Regulation 41/24 (Prohibited Activities, Exemptions and Permits) within the Regulatory Program. You will participate in corporate and inter-agency projects and studies that might be impacted by Conservation Halton's policies.

Your Qualifications

  • A degree in Geography, Environmental Studies/ Sciences, Urban/Regional Planning or a related degree, combined with 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Working knowledge of the Conservation Authorities Act, Ontario Regulation 41/246, Ontario Regulation 686/21, Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statements, Niagara Escarpment Planning and Development Act and Niagara Escarpment Plan, and other related environmental/Provincial legislation, plans and policies
  • Ability to read and comprehend engineering and landscape drawings, as well as technical reports, and relate them to Conservation Halton policies and objectives
  • Possess strong communication skills (written and oral) and an ability to synthesize multi-disciplinary technical information to effectively communicate with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Possess strong computer skills including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Teams, Zoom and the ability to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) effectively
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced work environment both independently and in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Full membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is preferred or, alternatively, candidate member/eligible to become a member of OPPI
