Oak Medical Arts

Oak Medical Arts is a locally-owned network of five clinic and pharmacy locations in Thunder Bay. Our team-based model integrates many health professions including walk-in clinic services, pharmacy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, physiotherapy, foot care, harm reduction, kinesiology, mental health counselling, and much more. Our goal is to make it easy to access great healthcare, know our patients, provide excellent care, and improve the health of Thunder Bay and the community overall

Oak Medical Arts is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Pharmacy Assistant to join our team. If you're passionate about patient care and pharmacy operations, this is an excellent opportunity to contribute to an innovative, patient-centered healthcare environment.

Position Summary

As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting the daily operations of our pharmacy, ensuring prescriptions are processed accurately, and providing outstanding customer service. You will assist the pharmacy team with administrative and inventory management tasks, prescription preparation, and help maintain efficient pharmacy workflow.

In addition to pharmacy responsibilities, you will also receive training to support clinic operations, expanding your role into assisting with administrative tasks in our clinic setting as needed. This provides an exciting opportunity to grow your skills in both pharmacy and healthcare clinic environments.

Right now, we are looking for a part-time pharmacy assistant to work some evenings and Saturdays, but this position has potential to expand into full-time hours in time.

Pharmacy Assistant Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Assistant, your primary duties will include:

  • Prescription Processing:
  • Receiving and entering prescriptions
  • Accurately preparing and counting medications
  • Managing refill requests and preparing blister packs
  • Ensuring all required documentation is complete and accurate
  • Inventory Management:
  • Managing drug orders and narcotic counts
  • Ensuring adequate inventory levels and completing returns to stock
  • Handling inventory reports, minimum/maximum levels, and expired stock
  • Pharmacy Operations:
  • Assisting in managing pharmacy workflow
  • Supporting all Kroll system functions, including adding new patients, coverage, and documentation
  • Organizing and maintaining the dispensary area to ensure efficiency
  • Collaborating with the pharmacist and technician to support prescription preparation and checking
  • Customer Service:
  • Providing fast, friendly, and efficient service to patients
  • Answering phone calls, processing payments, and coordinating deliveries
  • Assisting with patient questions and referring to the pharmacist when necessary
  • Explaining pharmacy services to patients and helping book clinical appointments
  • Clinical Support:
  • Assisting with medication reviews, naloxone education, and other clinical services offered through the pharmacy
  • Preparing immunizations and helping manage point-of-care testing, as directed by the pharmacist

Training and Growth Opportunity: Clinic Support

While this role primarily focuses on pharmacy tasks, all Pharmacy Assistants will receive training to assist with clinic operations as well. This includes learning how to:

  • Book and manage patient appointments in the clinic's EMR system
  • Handle phone calls and emails related to clinic services
  • Support patient check-in and assist with basic administrative tasks in the clinic

This dual training offers a dynamic and evolving role, allowing you to gain experience across both pharmacy and clinical healthcare settings.

Key Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a pharmacy setting (an asset but not required)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in using pharmacy management systems (e.g., Kroll) and general computer skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and as part of a collaborative team
  • Interest in learning clinic administrative tasks and supporting healthcare professionals
