The RGI Intake Worker is responsible for performing a variety of administrative duties relating to the intake and tenancy of RGI residents at all the permanent housing programs at YWCA Toronto.
ABOUT YWCA TORONTO – HOUSING ADMINISTRATION
YWCA Toronto offers a range of housing options for single women and women-led households and gender diverse people, including permanent housing at a variety of locations. Individual and group support assists residents to maintain their housing. On site housing support services provide education on the rights and responsibilities of tenancy, conflict mediation and resolution, crisis prevention and intervention and referrals. Housing Administration is involved in all aspects of Intake, Rent Collection, RGI Calculations and Eviction Prevention.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interviews all potential RGI applicants for housing;
- Collects all required documentation related to tenancy eligibility and approval process;
- Verifies all employment and landlord referrals received from applicants, as required;
- Performs initial rent calculations to determine eligibility for the Rent Geared to Income permanent housing programs, collects rent for initial payments and issue receipts;
- Provides tours of rental properties to prospective tenants and external stakeholders as needed;
- Prepares and completes lease for tenant review and signature including meeting with the tenant to review the tenant's and landlord's responsibilities including the requirements of the Residential Tenancies Act and Housing Services Act (virtual and/or in person);
- Processes credit checks, references and reports for prospective tenants, in the absence of the Market Intake Worker
- Monitors and analyses statistical data, maintains a vacancy spreadsheet for each housing program in collaboration with Property Services;
- In collaboration with the Associate Manager, develops and implements a marketing plan for the permanent housing programs;
- Assists in Preparing quarterly reports for internal review and funders and the preparation of the Housing Administration Annual Report;
- Attends supervision and staff meetings;
- Ensures that the Health and Safety Guidelines are followed in accordance with the policies and procedures of YWCA Toronto;
- Assist with other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
- In depth knowledge of an academic or technical discipline normally acquired through completion of a relevant undergraduate degree (example: social work, social sciences or fields related to social and alternative housing administration) (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
- 3 to 5 years directly related work experience in a residential setting governed under the Residential Tenancies Act and the Housing Services Act;
- Excellent knowledge of Rent Geared to Income calculations and the Housing Services Act;
- ONPHA On Line Rent Geared to Income Certificate or equivalent is required;
- Proven experience working both independently and as part of a team in the planning and delivery of service;
- Experience working with diverse individuals and groups and the ability to deliver culturally sensitive services in a multi cultural environment;
- Excellent interpersonal and interviewing skills;
- Ability to work within an anti-oppression and feminist framework;
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills;
- An understanding of issues facing low income women and gender diverse people;
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and remain calm in a crisis;
- Excellent organization skills;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to work in a busy environment with competing demands;
- Knowledge of housing resources in the community;
- Advanced Computer skills to include: Word, Excel, Property Management software;
- Working knowledge of ARCORI software program an asset;
- Knowledge of a second language an asset.
Note: Some evening work required; regular travelling between sites.
