This newly created position of Senior CMM Program/Operator will report to the Director of Quality and will examine our product for physical defects. Additional accountabilities include reviewing drawings and specifications to understand the product requirements, and verifying the product's dimensionality and workmanship visually against the drawing and specifications to confirm conformance. When not programming or operating the CMM, this position will perform receiving inspection, first-off inspection, in-process inspection, and final inspection of manufactured products and purchased parts, and providing assistance in maintaining the company's Quality Management System (QMS) per customer and/or AS9100/ISO 9000 requirements.
Senior CMM Program/Operator
Shift (day): Mon - Thurs 7:30 am - 5pm; Fri 7:30 am - 4pm
Job Responsibilities and Duties
Leadership:
- Provide leadership and technical support to the QA department and team.
- Establishing priority sequencing for the quality team to meet deadlines and targets.
- Ensure that records inspection outcomes are completed and accurate, the desired data is being captured and reports for quality performance and non-conformities (KPI).
CMM Programmer
- Able to program the CMM or Faro Arm using the CAD Modules and create programs to inspect the part. Store files under the Customer's Name, Part Number, and Revision.
- Able to create CMM programs and set up sheets (photos) necessary to inspect the product and control security files.
Work Order Review / Inspect
- Review the work order/traveller to ensure all defined operations are completed and verified.
- Inspect, monitor, and ensure all quality standards are met for manufactured parts to establish criteria and control plans, before releasing them to the next operation step.
First Off Inspection / Incoming Inspection / In-process Inspection
- Conduct first-off inspection activities to ensure that the correct set-up, product program, and product meet the customer and drawing requirements.
- Verify incoming materials to confirm compliance with the purchase order and/or customer requirements and liaise with the supplier as applicable regarding documentation and defective material.
- Perform regular assessments during the manufacturing cycle to confirm that the product and process are still in control and the product meets quality standards and customer requirements.
Final Inspection / Weldment Inspection / Documentation
- Review the work order/traveller to ensure all defined operations are completed and verified.
- Perform quality assessment before the product is released to the customer to ensure that all the customer and drawing requirements have been completed and met.
- Compare welded assemblies against drawings to ensure compliance with the specifications and drawings.
- Completed the desired quality documentation and data, on First Article Inspection Report (FAI), PPAP, Quality Performance Reports, Inspection Logs and Records, etc.
- Records inspection activities such as first-off, in-process, incoming, and final inspection results on required records.
- Assist and provide recommendations to update production instructions, inspection procedures, checklists, records, etc.
- Ensure that all WIP, stores, purchased, and/or finished products are identified with the inspection status in every process or area.
NCR
- Ensure that defective material is properly identified with tags, etc.
- Report any deviations to the supervisor and lead hands.
- Ensure the quality-related issues are resolved promptly and the rework is verified to meet the quality and drawing requirements.
- Issues Non-Conforming Material reports (NCR) for rejected material and/or work orders.
Corrective Action
- Assist production and management in developing new approaches to solve problems identified during quality activities.
- Assist in investigating manufacturing and customer complaints regarding quality and errors, as directed by management.
Priorities
- Understand priority sequencing for inspection and work under the guidance of the Production and Quality Management to establish the priorities.
Process Improvement
- Review all data obtained during all quality control activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures and report any opportunities for improvement.
- Issues (DCR) Document Change Record for improvement and updated to processes & documentation.
Calibration
- Calibrate measuring equipment, tools, fixtures and gauges. Ensure that calibration records are available and are up to date, as well as tools have the desired calibration status.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education and/or University or College Degree in Mechanical / Industrial / Quality engineering or similar disciplines (preferred) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum Five (5) years of experience programming and operating the CMM, along with working in an ISO9001 or AS9100-certified manufacturing environment.
- A good understanding of product development in metal fabrication or machining processes is an asset
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, manufacturing drawings and specifications to understand product requirements and validate compliance against these specifications and drawings.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to work with Microsoft Office. (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Experience working with ERP systems, such as VISUAL INFO, is an asset.
- Strong communication skills - oral and written.
- Must be self-motivated, work independently or in a team environment, complete tasks assigned and work with minimal supervision.
- Sound problem-solving skills and the ability to provide solid solutions.
- Solid understanding of GD & T, along with familiarity with SPC.
- Cooperate with coworkers to ensure that issues are appropriately communicated, contained, and resolved.
- Able to use various measuring equipment or tools, including but not limited to: Vernier, calipers, micrometer, height gauges, feeler gauges, coating thickness tester, and digital protractor, etc.
- ASQ certifications, an asset .
- Familiarity with operating a Laser Scanner, Faro Arm, or CMM (Zeiss Calypso) is an asset
- Completion of a college program in Quality Assurance
- Solid knowledge of metal manufacturing.
- Use of SolidWorks as an asset.
