Under the general direction of the Associate Dean, Teaching & Learning Innovations, the librarian is responsible for delivering and supporting research help services, instructional services, and teaching and learning initiatives for the Department. The librarian may act as a liaison to one or more academic departments and service areas as appropriate, to build relationships, provide research and instruction support, and to develop academic skills related to academic integrity, research, and information, digital, and AI literacies. The Librarian supports front-line library operations in conjunction with other librarians, to enhance services and the learner experience on the Kelowna Campus. Other duties may include collection development, professional development, and service.

Functions and Duties

1. Provides in-depth research consultations and public service support to students, staff, and educators, collaborating closely with librarians to deliver integrated, learner-centred services.

2. Designs, delivers, and assesses online and in-person library instruction and learning experiences using a variety of instructional methods, with a focus on building information, digital, and AI literacy, research skills, and academic skills related to academic integrity, plagiarism, citation practices, and fostering the thoughtful and responsible use of GenAI in curricular and co-curricular contexts.

3. Liaises with academic departments or areas as appropriate, to build relationships, deliver instruction, provide research support, conduct library resource assessments, contribute to program review/accreditation reports, and develop and maintain collections that meet learner and educator needs.

4. Develops, curates, and maintains instructional and learning resources such as research guides, tutorials, and multi-media materials, to support independent and guided learning related to research, information and digital literacy, academic integrity, plagiarism, citation, and the use of AI tools.

5. Applies evidence-informed approaches to assess and improve library programs and instructional initiatives and activities.

6. Collaborates with educators, educational developers, and program areas to embed library instruction and research competencies into course and program design, supporting open, accessible, and ethically grounded learning practices.

7. Supports campus events, orientations, and communications, promoting library resources, services, and spaces, in collaboration with librarians and staff.

8. In collaboration with other non-instructional faculty and support staff in the portfolio and at the College, represents Library Services at OC portfolio and department events and activities.

9. Actively integrates principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility into services, instruction, and collections.

10. May include selecting and evaluating print and electronic resources to support curricular and professional development needs, in collaboration with the Collections and Metadata librarian, the Digital Systems & Services Librarian, the Library Department, and academic departmental representatives.

11. Contributes to planning and development of department and portfolio policies and procedures by participating in library and TLI Portfolio committees and meetings.

12. Engages in professional development activity intended to maintain awareness of current and emerging trends in librarianship, professional competencies, and teaching and learning practices.

13. Engages in service to the College, the profession, and/or relevant community services.

14. Performs other related Librarian duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Minimum qualification is a Master's degree from an accredited Master's program in library and information studies.

Desirable Experience:

Recent relevant professional library experience in an academic library, including experience in the provision of library instruction and research help services, or acceptable equivalent.

Experience with teaching and leading library programming

Recent experience working with International and/or students whose first language is not English.

Some evening and weekend work may be required.

• Ability to learn and apply new skills and evidence of ongoing self-directed learning.
• Strong organizational skills in managing multiple activities and working under time constraints.

Schedule

35 hrs/week, generally Mondays through Fridays. Some evening and weekend work may be required from time to time.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate

Salary range $71,846 to $115,129 with normal starting salary between $78,872 and $85,897 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.
