GENERAL SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Library Services, the Community Engagement Librarian is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and assessment of public programming and outreach services that are relevant and valuable to the community and that advance the library's strategic plan and organizational goals. They oversee the direction of programming and marketing staff, and support and lead their team to operate effectively and efficiently. They ensure that programming and outreach initiatives, as well as marketing and communications, support the library's mission, vision, and strategic direction. They advocate for programs and outreach services within the library, and within the community. They also lead initiatives that uphold the library's commitment to Reconciliation.

Working with the management team, staff, and community partners, the Community Engagement Librarian regularly assesses and evaluates program and outreach delivery and introduces strategic initiatives. They are responsible for special projects as they relate to programming and outreach services and work with staff across departments to develop and implement new initiatives that support the library's goals.

The Community Engagement Librarian has excellent working knowledge of relevant technologies. They demonstrate skills in communicating and presenting information, writing, consulting and listening. They work effectively independently, as part of a team, and in leading others. They demonstrate strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and exercise initiative and sound judgement.

The Squamish Public Library retains the right to shift responsibilities amongst staff paid at the same level as each other.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

Programming & Partnerships

· Leads the programming team and provides supervision, direction, and collaboration to all staff and volunteers responsible for the planning and delivery of programming.

· Oversees delivery of all library programs including virtual, makerspace, and tech programs, that are relevant and that best fit within the library's mission.

· Addresses programming needs targeted toward audiences that are deemed critical to the library's success.

· Oversees and manages programming budget annually.

· Builds and grows relationships with community partners as they relate to programming including Squamish Arts, Capilano University, and others.

· Oversees Marketing & Communications Assistant to ensure programs are accurately represented and visible.

· Oversees the hiring and supervision of the Summer Reading Club Assistant and the SRC annual program.

· Develops and fosters relationships with Squamish People and is a champion for Reconciliation on behalf of the library.

Outreach & Community Engagement

· Identifies and promotes library services that support equitable access to the knowledge, information, and resources within the library.

· Assesses outreach needs in the community and develops and implements services to address those needs.

· Provides supervision and direction to all staff involved with outreach services.

Evaluation & Strategy

· Evaluates and adjusts service delivery and introduces strategic initiatives. When appropriate, the incumbent shifts resources to programs and services that better meet the library's strategic priorities.

· Stays current with trends and best practices affecting libraries.

· Provides active leadership and expertise for planning, developing and implementing

improvements and efficiencies.

· Ensures that all programs and services are monitored and evaluated using meaningful metrics.

· Participates in strategic planning processes and system initiatives.

· Maintains professional knowledge and awareness of best practices for library services.

Leadership

· Directly supervising staff on the community engagement team.

· Ensures that Marketing and Communications Assistant, and all staff and any volunteers who deliver programming and outreach services, are trained, supported and capable of representing the library's commitment to excellence.

· Supports staff through individual professional development plans and provides feedback and progress reports.

· Assumes a leadership role on teams/committees.

Other Duties Include

· Regular front-facing desk shifts assisting the public.

· Special collections management.

· Research, reference, instruction for patrons.

· Writing and submitting proposals for funding or grants.

Performs other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

· Skilled in implementing and communicating change effectively, fostering adaptability among staff and community partner.

· Demonstrated project management skills.

· Exceptional presentation and public speaking skills with the ability to draw in diverse community groups.

· Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to monitor work of others and report on performance.

· Demonstrates discretion and maintains confidentiality.

· Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and in teams.

· Ability to demonstrate high accuracy levels and attention to detail.

· Superior organizational and time management skills.

REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

· Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from ALA accredited institution, or equivalent degree program in library and information studies.

· Experience in designing and delivering programs and outreach initiatives.

· Minimum five (5) years relevant library experience, including at least two (2) years in a manager/supervisor capacity, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Experience with coaching and employee development.

· Experience with community engagement and partnership development an asset.

Current Hours of work: 35 hours per week, four-day week schedule. The incumbent will work four days per week, and one weekend shift every four weeks. Flexibility required to attend evening and weekend events.

Salary: $ $49.77 (range) per hour
