Position Summary

We're looking for a talented and passionate Baker to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone with solid experience in professional baking who thrives in a creative, high-quality environment. You'll work alongside a team of dedicated bakers and pastry chefs who share a commitment to excellence, innovation, and the joy of creating something truly special every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and bake a variety of breads, croissants, viennoiseries, pastries, and specialty desserts to Mezzaluna's exacting standards.
  • Execute all stages of production — from scaling, mixing, and laminating to proofing, baking, and finishing — with precision and consistency.
  • Maintain consistency in taste, texture, and presentation while adhering to recipes and production guidelines.
  • Monitor baking conditions (temperatures, proofing times, etc.) to ensure optimal quality.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe work environment.
  • Manage ingredient inventory and communicate supply needs in advance.
  • Collaborate with the team on new product development and seasonal offerings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of professional baking or pastry experience in a bakery, pâtisserie, or hotel kitchen.
  • Proven skill in laminated doughs, artisan breads, and fine pastries.
  • Strong understanding of baking science, ingredient functions, and food safety standards.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a high-volume environment.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for contributing new ideas and products.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings before opening hours, as well as weekends and holidays.
  • Willingness to participate in media or promotional opportunities is considered a strong asset.

Compensation and Schedule

  • Pay: $20.00–$23.00/hour (commensurate with experience).
  • Positions available: Full-time and part-time.
  • Work Location: On-site at Mezzaluna Bakery & Pastry (Ottawa, ON).
