Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President People & Culture, the HR/Disability Coordinator is responsible for providing comprehensive support to the organization in the areas of disability management and claims coordination for both occupational and non-occupational accidents/injuries. This position will also be responsible for overseeing the claims management system and implementing effective return-to-work programs. The role will involve working closely with employees, healthcare providers, and external agencies to ensure safe and timely reintegration into the workplace, while continuously improving the claims management performance through proactive prevention programs.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Claims Coordination: Administration and coordination of occupational and non-occupational illness and injury claims, including WCB/WSIB, STD, LTD, and MPIC. Collaborate with healthcare providers and case managers to facilitate appropriate interventions and support employees' safe and timely return to work.
  • Documentation and Processing: Accurately complete and submit all necessary documentation for claims processing and monitor status changes in the system. Notify payroll of any changes as required.
  • Point of Contact: Serve as a primary point of contact for employees and management regarding claims management inquiries, providing expert guidance and support.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Act as a subject matter expert on disability management issues and employee claims status. Deliver training on the claims management system and return to work programs.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Establish and maintain effective communication with medical professionals, WCB/WSIB, MPIC, STD/LTD providers, and other relevant parties to ensure the exchange of claim information and coordination of return to work efforts.
  • Reporting and Tracking: Report and track WCB/WSIB, STD, LTD, and MPIC claims management, generating and distributing reports as required.
  • Return to Work Coordination: Work closely with employees and management to coordinate and facilitate early and safe return to work opportunities, leveraging the return-to-work accommodation program.
  • Disability and Wellness Programs: Lead and coordinate programs and services related to disability, health, and wellness education. Monitor claim trends, benefit costs, and industry standards to develop strategies and initiatives.
  • Training and Development: Ensure that leadership receives training on disability claims management and return to work. Develop and provide training materials as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Experience and Certifications

  • 3-5 years of disability management and return to work programs, combined with general HR experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HR laws and regulations, disability management principles, and Occupational Health and Safety and Worker's Compensation Legislation
  • Performance Management for all non-union and union concerns.
  • Certificate in Human Resources, Return to Work Coordinators, Certified Disability Management Professional, or equivalent HR-related experience
  • CPHR designation or candidate
  • Experience in Ceridian Dayforce
  • Experience in WCB/WSIB and working with Manulife benefits required
  • Strong computer skills required, including Excel
  • Indigenous and Cultural Awareness Training considered an asset

Working Conditions

  • This is an onsite role in our Winnipeg office
  • Physically able to perform all listed job duties
  • Travel by aircraft and other means as required by role as needed
  • Work performed primarily in an office environment
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and telephone
  • Ability to attend offsite work events as required (e.g. job fairs)
