The Indigenous Studies diploma program is looking for a casual faculty member who will report to the Chair of the Indigenous Studies Program. The successful candidate can look forward to joining a dynamic program where the curriculum focuses largely on Treaty 6, but is broadly inclusive of Treaties 7 and 8, Inuit studies, and global Indigenous issues.
The successful candidate must have a record of creating supportive learning environments for Indigenous students, along with proven ongoing relationships with Indigenous peoples.
How You Will Make a Difference:
- Guide the integration of Indigenous perspectives and pedagogy into the curriculum and course development process.
- Deliver high quality instruction which facilitates the highest possible learning among adult students.
- Prepare learning materials according to college and program guidelines suitable for adult students.
- Ensure that plans and developed materials adhere to basic standards and prepare supplemental materials as needed.
- Evaluate effectiveness and appropriateness of lesson delivery, assignments and tests.
- Provide formative and summative evaluation and feedback to students in a timely fashion which supports learning gain.
- Work with students to improve practical skills.
- Communicate with learners in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate student records and assign final grades.
- Work as a member of a team, including liaising with program instructors and program leadership.
- Assist with curriculum development within the program and in other programs in the College.
What You Bring:
- Master's Degree in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, or Education; or, in a related field with significant course and research experience in Indigenous Studies
- Priority will be given to qualified candidates who identify as First Nations, Metis, or Inuit
- Significant (3-5 years) teaching experience is required
- The successful candidate should be able to teach some of the following: Indigenous Studies, Indigenous Political Realities, Indigenous Business and Economics, Indigenous Resolution Strategies, Indigenous Social Policy and the Law, Indigenous Art Studies, Cree Language, and Indigenous Peoples and Climate Change.
- Please review the course descriptions online and make clear on your CV the courses from these lists which you can teach
- Knowledge of an Indigenous language is considered a significant asset
- Experience working with Indigenous community members and integrating their voices and perspectives into curriculum and new programming
- Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Moodle and Blackboard, comfort with technology and software to teach online/hybrid if required
- Curriculum development experience considered an asset
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Demonstrated ability to consistently meet timelines
- Availability to teach classes on weekdays between the hours of 8am and 7pm.
SALARY: Reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. Plus an additional 11.2% in lieu of benefits and vacation. This is a Faculty role therefore the pay range is quite large, the Faculty Association agreement outlines how pay is determined.
