Payroll Coordinator

The Payroll Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring accurate and efficient payroll processing for all employees. This position supports compliance with Board policies, procedures and legislative requirements while maintaining the integrity of payroll, pension, and benefit data. The successful candidate will assist team members by reviewing payroll calculations, resolving discrepancies, and implementing processes that enhance data reliability across all payroll-related functions.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Administer OMERS and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (TPP) benefits, including enrollments, terminations, and monthly remittances.
    Complete year-end reconciliations and reporting for OMERS and TPP.
  • Provide employee assistance regarding retirement processes and liaise with pension providers.
  • Collaborate with HR and HRIS on policies impacting payroll.
  • Support payroll staff and administer programs such as Deferred Finance Leave, auto-taxable benefits, and T4A reporting.
  • Assist with monthly remittances for EHT, CRA, Cowan, and union deductions.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support departmental goals.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting or Human Resources
  • Minimum of five (5) years of payroll and pension experience
  • Experience in a team environment and building collaborative relationships
  • Preferred: Process improvement experience and experience in a unionized environment.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation required.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of OMERS, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, and deferred finance leave plans.
  • Exposure to HRIS and payroll systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Provision of a satisfactory Police Clearance including Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (PCRJMC) (an original copy date in the last 6 months may be acceptable) is a condition of employment.

Salary Range: $70,483 – $82,426 and includes a comprehensive benefit plan through a provincial benefits trust plan (extended health, dental, life insurance, AD&D), and enrolment in the OMERS pension plan. This is a permanent full-time, 12-month, 35 hour per week position and is part of the Board's union-exempt Administrative Management Group.
