SWPH is a workplace where employees are integral to the research, planning, collaborative efforts and delivery of programs and services.This position is presently located at the St. Thomas  site.This posting is for one (1) current vacancy.   This position is anticipated to extend until March 12, 2027, subject to availability of work and funding.Under the direction of the Program Manager, Dental & Vision, the Dental Assistant will deliver oral health programming & services as required by the Ontario Public Health Standards, associated oral health protocols and the Health Protection and Promotion Act. Assist with Program Assistant back-up and with designated screening and clinical preventive services. The Dental Assistant assists with community & school-based oral health screening, assessment, preventive treatment & instruction, including health promotion, disease prevention, and program evaluation and planning in order to promote optimal oral care for all St. Thomas, Elgin, and Oxford County residents. Contributes to raising the awareness of St. Thomas, Elgin, and Oxford County residents along with providing knowledge of the importance of oral health as it relates to overall health. Qualifications:EDUCATIONSuccessful completion of a one-year Dental Assistant Program from an accredited collegeMinimum, Level II Intra-Oral Dental Assistant certificate requiredHARP Certification requiredCurrent registration with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association is preferredKNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE Minimum one (1) year, current on-the-job experience requiredKnowledge of best practices related to sterilization processes and techniques Experience with children would be an assetKnowledge of legislation (Ontario Public Health Standards)Good command of the English language SKILLS & ABILITIESAbility to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and those staff they work with (e.g., dental hygienist)Ability to use several computer software programs including Microsoft Office, OHISS, Dentrix etc.Good communication skills, including the ability to listen to clients, using tact and discretion, and ability to creatively teach and present to large and small groups of children, teens, seniors, caregivers, and others about good oral hygieneGood keyboarding skillsAbility to plan, organize and manage time effectively as well as ensuring maintenance of required records, files, and suppliesAbility to acquire resources to be used in jobSPECIAL CONDITIONSValid Ontario Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicleAbility to work flexible hours when necessaryCurrent C.P.R. certificate preferredMust comply with the current Ontario Public Health StandardsAbility to speak low-German an assetAdherence with SWPH's policy and procedures Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement. Salary Range: $27.16/hr to $32.04/hr based on verification of qualifications and experience.  (70 hours in a two-week period).  Will receive vacation pay each pay period as well as pay in lieu of benefits following successful completion of the probationary period.  Offered enrollment in the OMERS pension plan (if enrolled, in lieu benefits will reduce). A criminal reference check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPID), inclusive of vulnerable sector screening, will be required of the successful candidate. Immunization Requirements: Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, are able to provide proof of immunization, and acknowledgement to follow Southwestern Public Health's policies and processes related to COVID-19 management in the workplace.
