Job DescriptionWHAT'S THE JOB?
The HSE Manager for Suncor Projects is responsible for leading and championing health, safety, and environmental programs to uphold and enhance the organization's best-in-class safety performance. This position is specifically dedicated to supporting Suncor Projects and entails planning, directing, and ensuring compliance with HSE policies and procedures. The role requires close coordination with field HSE Advisors to promote consistent performance and effective communication. This is a camp-based position operating on a rotational schedule of two weeks on and one week off.
This position is safety sensitive and requires drug, alcohol, and fit to work testing as a condition of employment.
Your work will include:
The HSE Manager will perform the following duties:
- Lead and support the implementation of corporate safety practices, policies, and strategic plans.
- Oversee the development and execution of safety programs aligned with RHS corporate HSE directives.
- Deliver training, guidance, and organizational leadership to foster safe and healthy workplaces, with a focus on preventing physical, psychosocial, and occupational injuries and illnesses.
- Provide strategic support to senior leadership, supervisors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective deployment of HSE programs.
- Monitor and evaluate HSE program performance to achieve targeted business outcomes and continuous improvement.
- Work under the direction of the RHS HSE Manager to introduce and promote new HSE initiatives.
- Prepare and analyze monthly HSE statistics and key performance indicators to identify improvement opportunities.
- Guide HSE Advisors and management in incident investigations, emphasizing root cause analysis and preventive measures.
- Support annual audits to maintain COR certification.
- Stay current with local, provincial, and federal occupational health and safety regulations and legislation.
- Communicate emerging HSE trends and industry developments to staff and management.
- Coordinate with RHS HSE Manager and relevant departments including Training, Disability Management, and HSE Systems.
- Exercise full authority to take necessary actions to uphold safe practices, including the authority to halt unsafe operations.
- Ensure effective information flow and publication of safety data to keep all levels of staff informed.
- Assist management in ensuring compliance of company-owned or operated equipment and facilities with safety and fire regulations.
- Support employee orientation and indoctrination processes.
- Ensure safety documentation and programs, including those under the National Safety Code, are complete and evaluated for effectiveness and compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications- Formalized training in Health and Safety, Public Health or related discipline.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- 5 to 10 years of experience in the safety field
- Proven experience in assessing training needs.
- Proficiency in developing high quality presentations using platforms such as Microsoft Teams and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated ability to train, coach, evaluate, and mentor others.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to support others through empathy, open mindedness, and respect.
